Are free actions during the Combat Phase limited by actions already taken during the Activation phase? For example: Jake Farrell boosts at the end of his movement. At PS 9, he is the last to move, the first to shoot. He shoots at something. Airen Cracken shoots next (PS 8). Afterwards, he gives Jake a free action (within range 1). Can Jake boost again, or does he have to wait until the next round??
Free actions during the Combat phase
The rules state: " a ship cannot perform the same action more than once during a single game round (not even when the action is a “free action”)."
The Round consists of Planning, Activation, Combat and End Phases. So Jake cannot perform another boost in Combat.
Edited by USCGrad90And to clarify further, he can't use the free action next turn - it has to be taken at the time the ability activates. He can use hid pencil action to boost next turn our obtain a boost some other way. You could use daredevil and activate that with cracken.

The good news is that A-wings have 4 possible actions plus you get the ability of a free boost or barrel roll after you perform a focus action.
So assuming Jake used boost as his initial action, he could focus + barrel roll in an attempt to get better position.

Incorrect... Jake has to Focus first, then boost or barrel roll... If he boosts first, then PTLs for a focus, he becomes stressed and can not perform the free remaining action...

INCORRECT howieloader.
It goes like this:
First action: Boost
Push the Limit trigger: Performed an Action
Perform a free action from your action bar (Focus)
Pilot Ability Trigger (Receive a Focus Token)
Perform a free Boost or Barrel-Roll Action (BR)
Receive a Stress Token (PtL)
All of which is nested in the "Perform Actions" step in the Activation Phase.
Is that in the FAQ, that's great news and I'm happy to be wrong in this instance... Locally we have played it as I explained, so that will be a nice change because Jake is stupid amounts of fun to fly...
The confusion you've had stems from not using PtL properly, specifically the application of the stress token. As stated above, it creates a nested action sequence that resolves before returning to pick up the stress at the end.
You probably won't find it in the FAQ under Jake, but there is a brief description of it under Push the limit.
Thank you Parravon and DraconPyrothayan for explaining this...
