Tournament Results Thread 2015

By stmack, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi all,

A while back I had asked if anyone was interested in me tracking Armada tournament results on my site. Think I'm ready to start doing so (ya I know I'm behind on X-wing results as it is), but there doesn't seem to be a good source of results anywhere so figured I'd start a thread for them.

What I need is:

Date

Venue

City

Attendance

Winning lists (usually try and get top 2 minimum or top 4 if it's larger than 12 people, or more if its really large)

If anyone wants to contribute some results I'll get them added to the site asap and we can start seeing what some of the strongest competitive combos are so far.

Cheers,

stmack

I will see what I can do for my area

Would you be interested in past events?

Yup!

I'll FB message you the lists from Moncton event back in May. Have pictures of all the lists.

I finally cleaned out my tournament pack that had the lists from our first tournament the day before this was posted. They went with the paper for recycling. I will hang on the the next set.

I won a tournament this past weekend on the 26 at sunshine adventure gaming in Miami, Florida. 6 people attended.

So top 2 was no squadrons eh. Interesting

Yeah,I was debating hard core on to fighters or not to fighters lol

I almost went with a fleet of yavaris, Adar tallon on an assault frigate and dodannas pride with Luke, two b wings, two a wings and an x wing.

I just didn't have enough practice with squadrons or a list like that, so I went with a jousting monster machine.

I will go on the record and predict we will see two archetypes for tournament winners with regard to squadrons:

1 - "No" squadrons (I have "no" in quotes because this also includes fleets that have things like only Tycho or 1-2 A-Wings, 1-2 Tie Advanced, etc., where they are just used to screen).

2 - An entire list built around using squadrons effectively, such as Gallant Haven + Yavaris + Rebel Aces or the Rhymer bomb.

I think the middle ground is the area that will suffer in tournaments.

There's going to be a tournament at GenCon, yeah?

100 people are signed up for the event and it goes both Friday and Saturday

Any chance it will be streamed at all? My apologies if this has already been asked/discussed elsewhere in the forums.

Ffg doesn't stream from GenCon.

Alright up and running, pretty minimal at the moment, plan on expanding out with more information on individual ship stats and objective cards and the like soon but just wanted to get it to the point where I can start adding tournaments and lists. If you have any results to add or suggestions/feedback to give send em this way.

Great stuff!

Really appreciate the effort and just mailed further results from the last London event. :)

Got some results added to the site from a small tournament in Seattle this weekend, any others to report?

Can we just ask and see if MJ would be ok with hosting a site for Armada results?

If you're talking about List Juggler go ahead and ask him, though I think it's Sozin who writes and hosts it. That said, what's the main feature you feel you're missing out on on my site, the ability to enter results yourself?

I have the nearly complete results from a little tournament (little = 5 participants) that we had here in Portland a week ago. (You'll have to scroll down past my interpretation of the events in question.)

I guess the feature that I would be interested in is to let readers actually dig into the actual data and see who played what.

Being able to upload data would also be good (maybe have it interact with cryodex), but as long as you're content to do the data entry, I'm certainly not going to whine about it. .PHP is hard, and it takes a lot of work and/or know-how to make a site like this. So, I'm not going to be too demanding.

Well first, you said you're behind on Xwing. Do you enter it? If you enter it, you have to keep on top of it, which is a hassle for you and also all of us dependent upon you entering them. Its faster pace if the community can add their results.

- This is my main issue with it. I've tried your site before for Xwing, but currently, I can't get useful up to date info from it.

I think we would all benefit from being able to enter info into it. Or if you don't trust that, create a section that can carry these entries as text so we can at least look at the data entries before you have time to curate them to ensure accurate total data.

Also, streamlining the entry into a known format is strong.

The colors, while thoughtful are too bright and make my eye jump far too much for easy reading. Since white black or light blue background would be better on the eyes. By making everything colored, its hard to pull relevant data from a skim.

aligning text to the middle of the screen is not intuitive for looking at, nor is it space conservative.

I can't tell either what the little trophies mean, 1 2 3?

Even some could say the font is not particularly easy to read. a la resume graphical issues.

Curently for armada, since we don't have another place to put them, this could go into your site.

Do note, that I appreciate your efforts muchly.

Also, note, that I have considerable gripe with List Juggler, but they know about it, and just don't have the time yet to make List Juggler more informative.

My main point to them that was that List Juggler needed to be able to sort results by date. If you pull up info, you'll find a high percentage win for 3BH. That's a build that worked in WAVE3!. Not relevant information anymore.

The pie charts are nice, but again out dated. But a better modus of reading a large pool of data.

I appreciate the feedback guys, honestly, usually I ask for it and get silence so the constructive criticism is much preferred. Definitely some stuff I'll look into to, I'm a database guy by trade so I'll admit I took this on mostly as a way to expand my skillset a bit and will admit to not knowing much about front end design. I think my goal with the colorful, centered layout was for it to look alright on phones and tablets but sounds like that may be hurting it overall. I'll try some new stuff and see if anything sticks.

But ya, I do do all the data entry manually which is a big limiting factor, not so much originally but as the games have grown it's become worse. Being able to upload cryodex data is something that's definitely on my to do list, was kind of waiting to see if FFGs software took over and if there was any kind of usable output from it. To be honest it's taken me a bit by surprise how much of the fine details people are interested in tournament-wise, the site was originally meant as a way to explore squad ideas but the demand to actually parse through round by round matchups and whatnot is seemingly pretty high (or at least vocal).

Also plan on looking into leveraging the XWS that's been created by the squadron builder guys to help normalize the input that would come from having users be able to submit data. Not sure if anything similar has been worked on for Armada yet. That said these are two pretty big tasks to take on though and might not happen until winter, in preparation for the next Store Champ season.

Thanks again though, if you (or anyone else) have any specific suggestions or anything you'd like to see added or changed feel free to pm me or send me an email, obviously I'd like to improve the site and have it be as useful as possible.

Cheers.

Good luck. Post it huge when you make a change!

I'm not even the best person to tell you about formatting, but ask some graphic design majors, or professional resume people. fonts. just. yeah.

A lot of engineers forget to think about what the function the audience wants, over what functions the engineer knows he can add.

Not what it can do, but what it has to do.
