Fat Han + Jake Farrel competetive (fat han 2ship in general)

By Vitalis, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I'm thinking about such a list:

Fat Han

Han Solo

Predator

C3PO

Luke

MF

EU

Jake Farrel

PTL

Test Pilot

Lone Wolf

Proton Rockets

Stealth

Didn't have the chance to test it yet, but can this work as rebel counterpart to deci+fel/whisper lists? This Jake gonna be pretty irritating with all those green dice and its only 1 red less than soontir but with 3 actions on the other hand.

I don't like talas as Han support thats why something else.

I was thinking about Farlander or some variation of 2400 as second ship, but lone B gonna be taken out pretty easy and YT2400 fits almost naked.

thrusters instead of stealth

**** i forgot the meta is still full of turrets.

But that gives me 98points so Han gonna be world of pain for Phantoms with initiative so its even better.

If you want to be a counter to Fel, this works. With all these upgrades and the usage of Han, you probably can't fit a B-Wing in there the way it should be. Ten Numb would be better as a Fel counter but the cost is way too high to get a Mangler Numb in with Han. Maybe some Chewie build...

Numb + Mangler fits in, but thats just it. And naked like this he's gonna drop. And fast.

Well its not designed as direct counter to fel lists. I just like the idea of turret beast (RAC/FatHan)+agile arc dodger (Jake/Fel/Whisper). Its supposed to be a versatile list.

take it from me (the resident DOOM! on cardboard hobo; not our resident holy hobo), Thrusters always even if you never, ever run into a turret.

Stealth is just bleh. That one green die is effectively junk apart from two scenarios:

1. that one in a million game where your perfect evade roll saves you from an HLC when you would have otherwise taken damage

2. you're soontir fell and always have focus to burn on your four dice (and you still get thrusters first)

Thrusters are guaranteed, far and maybe one of the most appreciated upgrades ever released for a green-die cynic. It'll completely save your bacon against HLCs and highly modified range 3 shots, stacking with your evade and focus for some very convincing defensive returns and removing the possibility of being one-shot outside from the one in a million triple focus (which, yes, has happened to me).

Also, heartily recommend V.I. unless you don't care about Soonts. There's nothing quite like unloading 5 fully modified dice into his face to slap the stealth device off of him. But, since you already have Han, that's probably not such a concern.

I do agree a VI Jake is better then a Lone Wolf Jake.I find Lone Wolf the most effective as a late game play and Han is going to be the actual late game play. Plus, you get to have both at 9 and wrecking house on Whisper/Soontir.

VI Jake, choose you must

97 points.

Not too low? Or i guess its instant initiative, that makes up for it.

gets you the jump on soonts always, and also the jump on the inevitable legion of Han clones

I mean, I suppose you could put some kind of missile on Han but it's better to just grab initiative and kill kill kill.

So i tested this list yesterday vs scums:

Black Sun Soldier w/ Feedback Array x2

IG B with Mangler, Autos and something else

HWK with Torkhil Greedo and Ion turret.

Well it was a beast.

1 game i ended with 144-0

second was 200-00

A wing just needs to be played really casual, i often sacrificed my own rocket salvo for arc dodge and a wing lost 2 shields for 2 matches. And rockets are awesome vs high value targets with all those boosts and evades. My opponent made a mistake of going after Jake first game (he though it would be easy kill) any han had 3 turns of free shooting. He took down almost everything besides IG. But han got 3 nasty pilot crits from mangler and suddenly i was missing determination very much...Match ended in a time out with IG still on board and i haven't lost anything.

Second game i swapped predator for determination.

This game my opponent decided to go middle while i put falcon on one edge and jake on other. Wisely he decided go after falcon and...after 1 turn of shooting ig was out of shields and jake after quick sweep and boost he had perfect out of arc rocket salvo that ig didn't survive. And since han took one z95 out, second to 1 hull, and ripped shields out of hwk my opponent conceded.

Few thoughts on my list:

Determination on han: I had this nasty pilot crit that forbade me from using both han and predator. Well i still had Luke but...

But that determination left me on 95 points (sic!), so i was thinking about some other rockets on jake: homing maybe or cluster. But they all require target lock , either no evades/boost/roll or no modification from focus. What you guy think?

I would only use Proton Rockets on Jake. They are his bread and butter. They are almost specifically designed to be used by him due to only needing a focus and not actually having to spend it. More firepower...not hard to get within range 1...and makes him a serious threat. Each game you play will be different in that a specific upgrade over another may have been better (like Predator vs. Determination). The key is finding an overall build that you can play against multiple types of lists and have success in many different situations. If you only ever test against one type of list you will eventually be tweaking your build over and over to only go against that list. While that is happening, your list may actually be getting worse and worse against other lists. Having a large init bid is not a bad thing. Not the most 'efficient', but in a list like this, there is no need to fill the gaps. PS 9 pilots with nearly guaranteed bids is awesome.

TL;DR - Stick with Proton Rockets on Jake. Having guaranteed initiative on two PS 9 pilots is not a bad thing.

This won Sacramento Regionals. Jake had thrusters and VI though. 97 points. Auto initiative, even against the 98 point Soontir/Chirpy.

Han with predator i presume?

Yup. Same Han the original post had.

instead of RAC and Fell, we shall dub it:

Macro Cheri; Mini-Fell

I won the Vancouver Regional with:

Han + Pred + Luke + C3PO + Engine + MF

Jake + VI + PTL + Proton Rocket + Thrusters

I don't think there is any better way to build a Han + Jake squad.

97pts is great to have. You will always get to choose initiative.

My report:

Thanks for that report, im going for Poland Nationals next month with that list, that report gave a lot of insight:)

Good luck!

I was in Poland in January...didn't get in any X-Wing though.

Drop Stealth device, add Autothrusters.

Drop lone wolf, add Veteran instincts.

Jake becomes maddeningly hard to hit.

Yeap, as i wrote before , already done this.

Ah, my mistake I must have skipped over the post.

Let us know how it goes in the tourney with this setup!

I agree with pretty much all that is said. Though you lose the pilot skill, I kind of like the idea of swapping Han down to Chewie. You could throw some missiles on the guy and still have a 2-3 point initiative bid but the missiles aren't the reason, but the gravy. I think Chewie is a better point efficient ship and with Predator, he can be just as much of a gunboat as Han. Consider him the Chubby Chewie to your Fat Han. He doesn't take crits and he has the same defensive mechanisms, plus you can toss on homing missiles, assault missiles, or cluster missiles just for the situational advantage.

I ran that list and it was very effective. Jake is so hard to kill and he becomes more of a distraction while Chewie picks off the ships.

The only real thing you're giving up is the ability to arch dodge high PS pilots with that EU, but I think keeping crits off you is worth it.
