First time with A-wings.

By Stoneface, in X-Wing

Cracken gets left out to dry and is the only ship that your opponent will be able to get a shot at after Jake and Tycho unload. The thought behind HU is to insure that Craken does what he needs to do before he blows up. I would advise running it with HU first a time or two, then seeing where you want to make changes to the list.

The list went 4-0 and was frustrating as hell to play against. I was flying Jonus with two HLC Deltas against this list. Jonus had Determination and HU on him. First exchange, he blows up Jonus. My Delta's took out Craken, but then never managed to land a hit on the A-wings. The list's creator is one heck of a pilot to boot.

I guess the art of this list to ensure Cracken being in Range 1 to either/both A-Wings, without any of them being in a direct jousting situation...

I won a store championship with the following:

Tycho w/ PTL, Daredevil, ExInt, Chardaan,

2 Blue Bwings with Adv Sensors.

1 Bandit with Cluster Missles.

While I won, it was tough as hell. There are no easy victories with tycho. If he could take VI or autothrusters without breaking the build, he'd be a powerhouse, as of now he is super fun, but unreliable. He either works great or goes out in a blaze of glory. I didn't try at at the Mass regionals, although I wish I had, as I did not do as well there. I did try him out with corran and a bandit, but that went very poorly. You need an anchor with him to draw some fire away like a B-Wing set or a PWT

By the way, my record was 16 stress in one round.

When I flew it, I actually went right for the joust. It basically gives your opponent the option of heading straight for you, which allows the cluster missiles on Cracken shenanigans to work, or they turn away and now you're behind them. Those proton rockets just don't leave the opponent many good options if you're willing to joust. The real key is to figure out how far you need to move to make sure Cracken is in range 2 when combat starts, taking your opponent's slowest possible move into account.

One guy gave me fits by ramming his fat Han right into Cracken. It denied me the shot with my cluster missiles, but his only shot was an out of arc at Jake with focus or a shot at Tycho with focus + evade. That one was a really close game.

I run a Jake/Tycho list with three variants:

1). Stress hog Y-wing, Ion Cannon, R5-P9 with or withouto a seismic charge depending upon grey or gold squadron pilots

2). Outer Rim Smuggler with Anti-Pursuit Lasers (basically a giant demolition derby car)

3). Cracken either with PTL, IPM and Engine, or Conc. Missles, Shield, and VI

I have had about the same sort of success (or lack of it) with all of them.

A Wings are a joy to fly in general. My MO with Tycho is to just put one stress on him and then assume he's stressed all game, sometime I collect the stress off to one side to see it stack up for fun.

Tycho is mad fun when run with EI+DD, and obviously PTL, he can also be run with the standard PTL+VI very effectively, sure he's not jake but he moves at PS10 and can hunt down pesky soontirs and phantoms. Without DD+EI what you're really paying for is the ability to PTL and do white moves. He's a deadly knife fighter because he can do a hard 1 every turn while stressed and still do actions, while jake is limited to 2 speed maneuvers or not using PTL.
