Flew A-wings for the first time tonight. One quick question regarding Tycho. Is there a limit to the number of stress tokens he can carry? At one point he had 10! Fairly certain I was playing him correctly with PTL and EH. It just looked wrong with so many stress tokens. Has anyone else flown Tycho dragging a trailer load of stress behind him?
First time with A-wings.
That's how he rolls.
For tournaments I usually use a D20 to indicate Tycho's stress token count.
The largest amount of stress tokens He's ever had under my control was 126 while he had Daredevil, Expert Handling and EI.
p.s. You can run him through debris clouds and still take actions!

Is that ruling correct? I was rereading the rule book the other day and the wording made it sound like all obstacles prevented actions

And I thought I was doing something wrong with 10!

Yeah, you didn't put enough stress on Tycho ![]()
Though if I'm honest I don't think I've managed to crack 20 stress with him, what can I say, I don't have Experimental Interface.
At a resent local game I brought a Stormtrooper helm piggy bank and have over 70 stress after 4 rounds of Swiss. with PTL and dare devil.
Wait, so Tycho can just continue taking stress? Holy crap, dude can just take it.
This much stress

is still not enough

It's not correct. (you are!)
Obstacles: Execute the maneuver as normal, but skip the “Perform Action” step.
I never count the stress on Tycho.
I use bluetack a double stresstoken (with extra red paint on it to look different) and announce to simply never make a red move with Tycho.
My opponents never argue. ![]()

10? Feh. Casual. ![]()
Psycho Tycho is a lot of fun to fly. Put a stresshog with him ust to see how many stress tokens you can get on the table

This has been widely debated:
Type "debris tycho" in the search bar in the Rules subforum:
It seems that the opponent was right as it's assumed that Debris rules override Asteroids ones.
Still, a clarification from FFG seems opportune
Edited by LouisCypherYeah, after I've got more than two or three stress on Tycho I inform my opponent I'm not tracking anymore and we can just assume he's stressed for the rest of the game. Because really, when am I going to perform three (nevermind, like, ten) green maneuvers and not need to PTL?
That game lasted 3-1/2 hrs! Only once did I roll more than 1 hit and that was the procket attack on Mux. Four hits and a crit vs all blanks. Jake and Arvel managed to kill some shields but all the ship kills were done by Tycho. Flew vs 3 Binarye Zs + Ndru + TPV M3A + Mux with a blaster turret. Came down to Tycho with hull only vs a Z with one hull and a full health Ndru. The Z claimed the kill. If Tycho hadn't been stressed I might've had a better chance of winning. Not being able to K turn made for some interesting flying.
If the As had 3 attack they would be VICIOUS! Now I understand why people love the little wedge. Especially Tycho. Amazing ability and an awesome dial. Definitely going to fly these 3 again. Anyone have a favorite build?
only 3 As
?
I fly
Jake (Vi- Prockets- title- push the limit - steath device)
Tycho (Push the limit, Prockets - Experimental interface, title - darerevil)
Green (push the limit - autothrusters - Ion Puls Missiles)
for 99 pts
As long as you fly them like wasps, they work pretty well... and even when I lose, i have a lot of fun with them
only 3 As
?
That's all I had.

At the start I would break away and shed stress but it was more advantageous (and fun) to stay in the fight. I really thought I was playing him wrong with the stress I was piling up. We both re-read his card and came to the same conclusion.: stress has no effect on him except for K turns.

Later on today.
on the topic of A-wings and Tycho, though, I wonder what everyone sees in him
maybe I'm just a fuddy-duddy, but I like Jake so much more ![]()
Granted, Tycho had his time to shine back in Wave 5 (rebel captive V.I Whisper? Meet PS 10, procket Tycho who gives exactly zero **** about your stress) but since I'm running into 0 control tech and a fuckton of PWTs, I can't really get behind E.I when I could roll with Jake, his free action, and thrusters.
Then again, we have the "por que nao los dos?" counter-argument, so hey.
besides, running around with a pile of stress, like a space faring Scrooge McDuck just getting started on his fortune, is a victory in and of itself

The love for Tycho is Daredevil. If you're running his as a PS10 A wing, or as an EH+EI A wing, you're doing it wrong, and Jake is the better option. But with Daredevil, he has the ability to fly like no one else in the game. Against lower PS ships, they don't stand a chance (including brobots). Against higher PS ships (such as Fel/Whisper), he can consistently setup the block from across the map.
Furthermore, we all agree that action economy is paramount in today's version of X wing. With Daredevil, Tycho can choose a maneuver that places him where no one can block him, and then adjust from there. Furthermore, it you can take a movement action without sacrificing tokens. I don't know about you, but I don't like getting into R1 of a PWT without an evade token at the ready.
Daredevil also shores up Tycho's primary weakness - the K turn. By providing him with DD, he can turn around 225 degrees - so he actually does it better than everyone else now. Furthermore, he can choose how far back he goes and the boost in order to fire on his previous position without getting shot at. No one else can do that.
With all of that said, I've been playing, Tycho for about 8 months now, and with the meta pushing evermore to PS9+, he's just not worth it. At the PA regionals, he was consistently moving prior to anyone else (er, except my prototype) on the board. And as everyone knows, when you're moving first, readjusting actions are far less valuable. Oh well.
Wait, wait. I'm worried what you just heard was, "Give me a lot of stress." What I said was, "Give me all the stress tokens you have". Do you understand?

As cool as Expert Handling is barrel rolls don't change your firing arc angle, so those lateral moves are usually minor improvements while moving at breakneck speed. Daredevil offsets your inability to K-turn by giving you two hard 90 degree turns in a round for a full U, it also helps immensely in altering your position in conjunction with Boost.
