Strongholds of Resistance is on the boat

Wouldn't a lot of the iconic Rebel capital ships (that aren't already printed) be more suited for the Commander book? I mean that book has to have something other than comms gear and cool uniforms...and hopefully a way to make the Commodore specialization be less useless.

True but I would like there to be some spread among the other books, and I'm hoping FFG starts creating some brand new capital ships for AOR because I love the new capships they have created for EOE.

I run these games for a few years now, and I've only used Silhouette 6+ on two occasions. Do some of you really make regular use of these big ships, or is this just for the sake of having stat porn?

Most of my group's campaigns involve at leas a couple of Sil 6 ships or equivalent, Usually one starts as or becomes the party's baseship along with a few hostile ones.

Our current campaign has us using an Alliance owned Xanter to scout for possible bases or safeworlds in the Unknown regions. Our prior campaign we were a Corellian Resistance Commando/Starfighter unit that was eventually assigned to a Starbolt. Most of our starfighter pilot campaigns we're attached to a carrier and they are rarely smaller then Sil 6. Our Pirate and Privateer campaigns we either start with a Sil 5 or Sil 6 and if we start with a 5 then we often upgrade to a 6 mid-campaign. Our Naval Campaigns we start with a Sil 5 and upgrade multiple times unless the campaign is cut short for some reason.

Even our campaigns where the party only has a Sil 4, Sil 3s, or a mix of those we usually end up working with, fighting against, or running from a few larger vessels.

What types of campaigns does your group do HappyDaze?

Two campaigns with smuggler crews, one with a band of bounty hunters, and one with a Rebel SpecOps group. All of them were small ship (Silhouette 4) based. Beyond these, several playtest groups for Force and Destiny, but none of them involved starships at all (never tested the Starfighter Ace).

I've used some large (Silhouette 6+) ships in a couple of games, mostly as obstacles in battle (especially after the Stay on Target book); however, some of my PC's have done some damage to a large vessel with torpedoes and the like and for a well-constructed Sil 4 vessel, taking on a Sil 5 vessel is not that difficult (especially with Critical Hits and Triumphs :) For the most part, though, I like to use the larger ships as scenery and deal with fighters, transports and gunships as the main combatants.

Yeah with those campaign concepts it makes sense that you won't run into many larger ships. But different campaign concepts increase the odds of bigger ships being involved.

Yeah I know smaller craft can trash larger ones with the right setup or numbers. Still the groups I've been part of usually like to include a larger craft if we feel it fits the campaign concept and if we include one or more then they usually end up in combat against something of similar size or larger at least a few times.

I'm generally flummoxed as to why everyone always calls for more and more ship stats.

I personally find the space combat rules clunky and generally streamline ship combat to make it fast-moving and not get bogged down by stats.

Oh trust me compared to the D6 capship combat rules, which my groups used for over a decade added together, the FFG rules are nothing on the clunkiness scale

Will they try using the Homestead/business rules from Far Horizons to develop a military base version for players to spend obligation on improving?

Have you seen Desperate Allies? It pretty much has what you're asking for.

My guess is that Strongholds of Resistance will have rules for GMs creating full-blown rebel outposts, as well as supporting characters and command characters to make it feel more alive.

Aren't we getting close to week 7?

Yeah, we are.

My guess is that we'll get it next week at the earliest. My co-host Dave is guessing by the end of the month.

Well that's two books I definitely want!

Yeah, we are.

You could just ask Sam tonight. :D

Sure seems like it should be any day now.

I hope so. My normal online game source still flagged it as available in Q2 2015. Amazon, on the other hand, cheerfully accepted a pre - order for it then re-flagged it as unavailable when the expected delivery window arrived.

We're due for a news story or two before it releases...have we really not had a news update on this product since March?

I can imagine why, given the release of Force and Destiny and their need to market for the new movie.

Still, it'd be nice to get it out this week or next while grad school hasn't yet consumed all my free time.

Based on that preview, I wonder if Bothawui and Ithor will be covered as well.

Was Ithor really that strongly tied to the rebellion in the EU? i would be shocked if Bothawui weren't covered though.

Ooo they announced the fourth planet I worked on, Kinyen.

Any idea what the 3 new races will be?
