I Need A GM!

By TicToc556, in Only War

For the love of all that the Emperor shines his light upon. I need a GM or group. If you are in the greater Western Washington are plese let me know.

You're far more likely to find a group if you're willing to GM yourself. I have no idea what the hell is up lately with people clamouring for someone else to GM. Just look for a group and suggest everybody GMs sometime. That's the simplest solution to getting people together AND playing. And you'll avoid GM burnout.

Yeah, in a group of 7 regular guys, only two of us seem to be willing to GM. Been having a bit of a problem as a result, though the group is still going.

If you're like me, you desperately want to be a player but either A) none in your group wants to GM or B) none in your group GMs the way you like to play. So just be the GM, at least for a while, and thus get your group together. Who knows, maybe someone else might want to take over?

Gentlemen,

Though I apprecite the input; you assume that I have not already tried the methods you mentioned. I've developed and abegan to run a campaign that spanned three worlds had over 40 named NPCs all with their own motivations and specific appearance/demeanor as well as over a dozen organizations all with their own flavor and motivations. In depth political and social structures both in the Regiment itself and with the organizations that the Regiment is dealing with Friendly and Foe. I have close to a hundred hours put into campaign developement, hand outs, maps, sound bites, and tomes of dialog. I don't think with all of that I can be accused of not trying to GM. Sadly I can't find a decent group that wants to play, but more to the point I don't want to GM. I want to enjoy my favorite setting as a player who is immersed in the world rather than the person facilitating the immersion. So while your suggestion to just GM is a method you may choose to utilize; it doesn't exactly scratch my itch. That for me is like saying that I want to get laid and you telling me to just go rub one out..... doesn't exactly cut the mustard.

Additionally if this isn't the place for players to come to try to find a good group or a good GM then where is? If questions that lead to players meeting groups which only expands the popularity of our hobby are met with critical replies and condicending attitudes than it is no wonder that this game line is dying rather than expanding. Take heed to your mothers advice and if you have nothing nice to say, than say nothing at all.

Ok but here is the harsh truth, there are far fewer GMs than there are players who are looking for GMs. If you want to play a game in person then posting on a board that has probably less than 30 regular posters and 100 posters in total spread across the entire globe looking in order to look for people in your area who want to play is not going to work. Your best bet is to look for an RPG group in your area and try and join it, if you have tried that and failed then posting here is not going to solve your problems unfortunately.

A better bet if you just want to play is to try roll20 or another site like that and try and join a group that plays at your time, if you are lucky then you can also join a group advertising for a game you want but if not you may be able to steer them in that direction in future. The reality is that if you are a player without a group you can't be very picky especially in what is basically a niche game.

^What he said. As to why that may have failed, well, you're outright saying you don't want to GM, you just want to play. Most people who are willing to GM aren't going to do it for eons just to be your entertainment provider. They'll want the rest to GM, too, because they want to play, too. I can tell you right now if someone in my group said "I never want to GM, I just want to play", we'd either tell him he's footing our beer bill or he can leave. You need to present yourself as being more open and willing to compromise. Ditch the system reqs, ditch the "I only want to play!" attitude and look for good people. In the long run, you'll be better off, and come time, they'll probably want to see what the excitement about 40k is all about.

I think the most fair thing to do is to have everybody potentially GM at some point like DBG mentioned, unless you're very lucky and got a dedicated GM.

Depending on the time and if you use roll20 Im more then happpy to do it, need more practice.

Thank you. I am more than willing to try Roll20. Additionally I would like to thank you for responding and showing the previous commentators that it is not in fact a wasted effort to reach out to ones own community.

Dude stop just stop. I apprciate that you want to look intelligent but presuming to know all the facts, the quality of my actions, and the character of my personality in RL based on a single digital media entry is simply just a silly move.

Welp, I can safely say with that passive aggressive douchebaggery, you won't be getting into my roll20 game. Good luck, though!

I don't want to GM. I want to enjoy my favorite setting as a player who is immersed in the world rather than the person facilitating the immersion.

I believe all he was doing was commenting on this line here. Nowhere did he say anything about your character or personality beyond what you've said in this post. Not that he would need to, as you've said all that needs to be heard on the subject. You want someone else to GM for you because you'd rather be a player. Okay. If everyone said that, where would we be?

All anyone on here has said is that the best way to get a group of players going (and thus, to be one of them) is to start the group yourself as the GM. If you don't want to do that, then you may have a hard time finding a group.

Did anyone actually read my entire post. I did run a game, I have actually run 5 games between Only War and Dark Heresy. I put a lot of work into my games to make then great for my players. None of my players are intersted in GMing this setting. I am confused as to how it is appraently against some kind of gamer ettiiquete for me to at this stage want to simply be a player. The critical nature of many of these responses is extremely disheartening.

It's what the Forums are like, then people wonder where every one goes, Tis the internet for you.

Tictoc, There is nothing wrong with wanting to play for a change! In people's defense, you did not make clear that you have a current group but are searching for another.

Did you check out your local game shop?

I would gm but I'm on the other side of the country right now and I'm no good with the online thing.

Radwraith; Thanks for the input. Perhaps I could have been more clear. Ive been trolling Meetup.com and the local shops. There are a good number of leads but nothing substancial yet. I knew is was an astronimically thin long shot but figured this would be a good place to perhaps find dedicated players. Ive enrolled in Roll20 and am linking up with Commissar for a game. Perhaps we can gather more people from the forum if Commisar is interested.

Hey Robin, we should try to get a 40k F2F RPG group together at some point.

Maybe advertise with Sororitas pictures, or even Slaaneshi cult pics if people are into that. :P

I realize you didn't post yet in this thread, but since you're such a forum troll, I'm sure you will read this. ;)
