Next Expansion

By Perignon, in Elder Sign

After the Gates of Arkham expansion I'm a bit confused about the future of Elder Sign.

Is it possible that FFG tries to give a new direction to the game, or was it a closure of the whole Elder Sign saga?

I mean the base game was released nearly 4 years ago, and it "only" has two expansions. I really like the game it's really good to play with friends less interested in games with more difficult rules (like EH or AH), or just to pick it up on weekdays after work, to keep the Lovecraft mood until the weekend when I can play EH/AH.

But now I'm just desperate to get more adventure cards for the base game or for the GOA expansion.

What are your thoughts? Will we see a new expansion on GenCon or ever again?

It's a new direction, for sure. They've opened the... gates... to potential new locations.

They could travel to Antarctica now, or Egypt, or Severn Valley. Lots of new possibilities.

The one unfortunate thing is that these possibilities probably would not be inter-compatible. I really like my solution to the combined Museum/Arkham problem, but it'll be difficult to have an Arkham and an Egypt deck co-exist in a game.

I'm with Tibs on this one. Gates for me are just the beginning of a whole new playing experience, a series of new independent games sharing some elements (small cards, AOs,investigators) but with each instalment representing a different world of adventures.

I honestly hope the museum time is forever gone.

As for what's next...dunno, but I'm pretty sure they won't abandon the line considering how good Gates has sold

I'm quite disappointed that FFG didn't reveal a new expansion for the game at Gen Con. EH will get Under the Pyramids before Christmas, and I was hoping that I can buy something for ES too.

Following the Gates of Arkham rules I'm hoping for an expansion which gives us Dunwich, Kingsport and Innsmouth locations. There are 16 investigators missing from the whole Arkham experience (correct me if I'm wrong). That would be enough for one big box expansion which could contain all the locations above mentioned, or two small box expansion with 8-8 investigators and new locations.

I still play the base game and the first expansions adventure cards, I like them too, only I play them with hard-to-beat AOs. It would be nice to get some original adventure cards too.

EH is a game with a wider audience than ES. It's a line FFG invests a lot on, and every year (so far at least) 1 small and 1 big expansions were published. GenCon is the perfect event where to announce big stuff (X-Wing, Imperial Assault, EH, some very hot new games).

ES had expansions appearing at a slower pace than EH: Gates was released a few months ago (first months of 2015) and it still has to be released in different languages around the world. The announcement for Gates was made on October, 1st, 2014. It'd have been quite a surprise to see another one announced at GenCon.
