Mon Calamari Rebel Saboteurs!

By matthewjksullivan, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

It's become pretty clear to me that Saboteurs are the most indispensable unit in the Rebel Army... and it's also become clear to me that I'm having trouble waiting for the new figure packs. So while I bide my time, I've just made some new miniatures of my own... behold my elite Mon Calamari Rebel Saboteurs!

Thanks for looking! If you're interested, I've got more pics and a how to here:

very nice bro! what would you charge for unpainted versions of this?

they look sooo good!!!!

Not sure if it's intentional, but I love the cell-shaded look of these guys. I'm painting some mini's from another game for practice before going into Vader and the Rebels, so I'd love to apply that look. Any advice on how you made them appear that way?

So, these are basically the most incredible thing ever. I hope you don't mind, but I featured you over on our newer IA site: imperialpropaganda.com

Seriously, jealous and a half. Maybe I'll have to try and convert an Imperial Officer into a Quarren? Point of fact: mine will never look this cool though. Cheers!

They look amazing! I wouldn't think it was a photo if not for the bases.

It's a trap!

Sorry, I had to.

Thanks so much Executor - I'm glad you like them.

As far as making a version for charge: I'm flattered (seriously) but I don't usually work for commission - my own backlog of miniatures is so big, I can't imagine taking on orders. However, this is a *really* easy conversion: all you need is the WOTC Ackbar and an exacto knife. If I can manage it, anybody can.

I love imperialpropaganda.com! Thanks a lot for including me in it - I'm honoured!

Ingenious work Matthew!

Now that you mention it, they do look very Borderlands, don't they? I approve.

Did you sculpt these on your own from the ground up?

Or did you use an existing figure and sculpt it into a mon calamari?

You need to check out his other painting thread. His style is amazing and looks really good. I remember Darth Vader's lightsaber in particular being great.

I prefer Sorastro's on that... but that's a matter of taste.

I really like Matt's painted minis though. Really cool effect on them! (and apparantly, so does Sorastro)

It's a very... how do I put this... A very "warhammer-ish" style of painting though.

It reminds me very much of how most people I know painted their WH40k minis when I was playing that back in the day.

EDIT: It's what the guy that taught me how to paint (well, mostly) called "paint for distance". It's supposed to look good on the gaming table, not up-close and in your hand.

I think the way sorastro paints is more of the "look good in your hand" type of painting. But that often looks kinda detail-less on the table, in my experience (and still, it's the style I prefer when painting)

Awesome

love `em

Feeling inspired :) Got to work on this conversion tonight and it is quick and not too hard. They are drying now, so hopefully a bit of painting tomorrow :)
