If you are Gen Con POST PICTURES

By Cubanboy, in Star Wars: Armada

I don't think you can accuse the Imperial list that won the tournament of being a spam list when he only has two ships to choose from when list building.

So just back from GenCon. I have some pics and will try and post later. Overall the ISD is HUGE. I am actually concerned with how exactly it will fit on the table. I hope they give it a higher stem, because I could see it easily overlapping a lot of other ships. That said, it is very pretty...

I am very disappointed about the lack of info on any sort of Wave III. I tried to talk to some people about it and the most common result as wait for the Force Awakens. Wait, what? I want ships from the Rebellion era, not Force Awakens. I am getting very fearful that Armada will suffer the WotC Starship battles One and Done. Wave II may be the last wave of ships before Armada switches to Force Awakens ships. That leaves the game missing a lot of stuff.

Even thought I finally got a demo of Armada in and it was a lot of fun, I think I am going to have to hold off on this game. I am too burned from WotC SSB to invest my love in a game that fizzles again. I want Dreadnoughts, Corellian Gunships, Carrack Light Cruisers, Star Gallons, etc not just new FA stuff. Very sad.

Anyhow, I will try and post my pictures later.

Thanks,
Duncan

Vadersson : The people you talk to were from FFG ?

Where as I couldn't care less about EU ships and would much rather see Ep7 models and rules!!

I really don't know man... I mean we don't even know how cool or iconic they'll be :P

Granted, the visual theme seems to be much closer to EP 4-6, but that's about it :P White TIE Fighters and sleeker X-Wings don't really warrant new ship cards for me :P

I grabbed some guy in and FFG polo briefly. Most people were not really interested in talking about Armada. He basically indicated that they can't say anything further due to Ep 7 coming out. All other statements on my part are conjecture.

Thanks,

Duncan

Eh. This isn't really conclusive. They did reveal at the In Flight report that they are working of stuff involving the new trilogy, but they also had new stuff for X-Wing and Imperial Assault that didn't involve the new trilogy.

I wonder if there is a blanket covering all Star Wars related products until the release of the EPVII. The more they seem to be saying it, the more I feel that may be the case.

. . . . If they have a hold on info due to Episode VII. . . Hmmmm there is a lot that can be drawn from that. . . Hmmmm I am expecting split waves now since Episode VII will have only so many ships in it, I thing Disney will use FFG to expand the universe for them. . . Hmmmmm

Merchandising for Episode VII starts getting released in September. That is also when all the tie-in novels and comics start coming out. If FFG is working on anything for The Force Awakens, it is likely they will announce it in September. This goes for any and all of their Star Wars games.

Hmmm we may not see spoilers on wave 2 until then. . .

Yeah no wave 2 for sale, can fill out wave 7 for x-wing at least

I am actually surprised Wave 2 was not for sale. I wonder what is keeping them from prereleases?

Baseless Conspiracy Theories:

1. Release back-logged like a taco-tuesday **** thanks to the Raider/dock strike

2. Quality issues (also rumored to be reason for Raider's delay)

3. They're giving all Squadrons Rogue as a default rule and need to design/test new **** on the fly :P

I think we'll see something Tuesday.

They mentioned they have product "on the water" related to EPVII, and X-wing has 3 reference codes which were skipped with wave8, so everybody is assuming that's X-wing stuff. If there is an extra wave of X-wing with a hard deadline (say, 4th september), then you bet this is the cause for some of the delays we've experienced. Also I think this might be the reason wave3 wasn't even announced. I'm sure they would have gladly spilled the beans (come on, Armada had a great start, but *nothing* new for Gencon) if it weren't for Disney telling them to hold it in until september 4th.

I played WotC's Starship Battles too, and I have to say that the biggest failing of that game was its gameplay.

The models were alright (even though the scale was soooo off, haha), but I felt there was way too much luck and too little strategy involved in the actual gameplay.

Their main Star Wars miniatures series was great, but Starship Battles fell flat for me. I don't think we have to worry about this for Armada as it is an excellent game that involves deep strategy and tactics. The overall quality is also much higher than SS. Like others have said, there could be many reasons there wasn't any news about Wave 3 at Gen Con. I for one wouldn't mind them producing The Force Awakens ships for Wave 3 and beyond, I have a feeling that there are going to be some sweet new ships introduced in that movie. With the ISD coming soon in Wave 2, that will more than tide me over as a fleet admiral for quite awhile :P

Maybe next week we will see some wave 2 news and loving.
