Rescue

By bubblepopmei, in Game Masters

At the end of our last session, a bounty hunter swung in and absconded with one of the player characters. She's been delivered to the Black Sun, who had placed the bounty.

The next two sessions will be about the players sorting out where she is and figuring out how to rescue her ala RotJ. My intent is to have the 1st session be about getting a tip from one of the contacts they've been canvassing for info via email RP between the sessions. I want to do something similar to that episode of Star Trek TNG where Picard was thought dead but instead was playing with pottery aboard a Mercenary BSDM ship. Don't pretend you didn't understand that reference.

The 2nd session will be about planning and storming the Black Sun hideout, rescuing their friend.

The trouble is - my personal and work life have been utterly bonkers lately. I have had cursory glances at Black Sun Rising and Under a Black Sun and thought they might be a good choice for the 1st session. The latter session will likely be most or entirely of my own design - though I do suppose I could borrow the AoR beginner's box components for that prison break.

I would really appreciate some help with suggestions for other pre fab adventures that might mix well with what i have expressed here.

The players managed to steal another freighter and ended up with a few crates of weapons on it and salvaged 8 combat droids. I would love to have them expire those resources in the plot to rescue their friend.

If you're wondering, the player is going to be using an NPC I introduced very briefly in the last session. After these 2 sessions she should be a fleshed out nemesis level NPC they will squeal about interacting with again in future.

So Black Sun placed the bounty to recruit the PC for a specific mission?

That Picard episode you mentioned involved him posing as someone else and remaining undercover so why was the PC picked up?

The PC's obligation is bounty. I don't roll obligation each session, I take what the players thought up and build it into the plot so they feel their characters are invested in the experience.

In our second session, last year, a bounty hunter came to get the PC - her friends were able to fend the huntress off. A year later in real time, the bounty hunter returned. Rather than have her be toothless, she had to succeed in the capture. The Black Sun posted the bounty because the PC discovered slaves were the cargo she was carrying in her back story, and she turned the slaves over to the authorities. So far the Black Sun have been getting her high, interrogating her, and they are going to torture her a little - taking her eye (the player wants a cybernetic eye and this is how I do things).

I haven't had enough time to read the black sun stories so I don't really know what to expect or whether they will fit or not. I do know that Black Sun is two words that could be replaced with Zahn Consortium for all I care.

Ultimately I'm just looking for a mission that involves some scum and villainy but isn't about breaking into a place - since that'll be the following session.

I'm going to try to read up in Suns of Fortune to see which I didn't play there and I've never tried Long Arm of the Hutt either, though the Hutt Cartel isn't directly involved in this.

Have you read the Scoundrels book based in Star Wars involving a sort of Ocean 11?

Basically involves them pulling a scam on Black Sun to acquire their secret files.

Can only be decrypted with an Alderaanian Cryodex which thanks to Tarkin there's very few left

This involved taking advantage of rival vigo's I'd recommend reading that for an idea on how Black Sun operates.

So they need to find out who placed the bounty and triangulate that by finding the bounty hunter's ship to find out where she's been taken.

Then you need to find something that Vigo or Black Sun Operative wants enough to let them in the compound they're holding the PC all whilst in disguise enough that they don't know their true agenda.

Distract the Vigo maybe by conveniently luring the Imps to stage a raid maybe because they let them think they're working for the Vigo or are undercover operatives (nothing says one of their new friends isn't a ISB Operative!) so whilst they're distracted stage the breakout and get off world before either side realises they've been played although that may need them to stage the captured PC's death to give them that time to clear the Black Sun Compound...

Will be interesting to hear what you or your PCs come up with!

I'm not sure if this will work or not, but I'll throw out a suggestion. I wrote up a scenario called "Hunter and Hunted" for a game day; it involves tracking a missing person to a Rodian hunting lodge. Perhaps this would work as a place from which to acquire inofrmation needed for Stage 2 of the rescue?

These are great ideas - I will review them. Thanks so much!
