By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

So some of my fellow Star Brothers and I plan to have some fun little Battle Hangouts and such. We tried it out on Dat Glorious Google this weekend... and came up with a no can do!

What do you techno-brothers recommend for this sort of fun little approach to running Battle Hangouts?

Your ole Big Star Brother Boss needs some helps...

HELPS!

I hope you have enough orthopedic cushions to share with your fellow nerds. ^_^

STAND you Bumz!

:lol::);)

If folks get tired they can just take a nice little nap... I won't even cheat while they are sleepin.

:)

So I recently ran a tourney for a bunch of my friends who don't get to play much and some new players and used felt like you. One thing I did that helped was used a white paint pen (extra extra large) to draw borders on the felt. I also gave room for cards and templates and stuff with the borders. Just my 2 cents, have fun :) p.s. Chairs are nice ;)

Are you going to be playing at the same table, and you want to live stream it? If that's the plan try using TwitchTV. If you're playing online use Vassal to play and skype or google hangouts to talk, I think you could even live stream that with Twitch, but I don't know for sure.

THANKS!

We played one crazy game online where a bunch of us gave commands to a guy somewhere in the world moving them and taking pictures. Was awesome fun for us. Though a lot of work for him.

Interesting, I'd hate to be the guy running it though. I think I'd still rather just use vassal if I'm not going to be using my minis to play.

Yuo... that is what I am trying to get setup.

:D

Dat no good Google hangouts compression of the streamed video is way to much for it to work good.

I can understand that, but I have run AD&D and other RPG's for twenty years. I like doing it. The hanging out and playing with toy space ships idea is kinda new to me and I want to make it as great as the RPG hangouts.

:)

Trouble is being able to see everything good enough for the guys to make good moves and aim their guns well.

I've GMed and played in a few star wars rpgs over hangouts, it was pretty cool. X-wing just doesn't seem like it would translate as well because of the flight path mechanics.

I was thinking of running it like a good battle report... except that we are hanging out while i move the toys and roll dice on my side. Dunno if it will work... yet.

I am going to try all of the other options before I abandon this project.

:)

You could use google hangouts for you & the map/minis, and run vassal in the background for the dice roller window and maybe the player hand windows for the dials & cards, you can get up to 8 players + any number of observers that way.
