Don't be so keen on updating old systems. There certainly could be some efficiencies gained doing so but new tech doesn't alway come problem free. When it comes to information we should also remember that some of the new stuff which makes it more accessible does so for anyone; if you want to keep your secrets staying off the WWW will certainly help. And finally lets not forget that updating tech may also mean a more efficient work place which no longer needs employees to run certain tasks.
The boss was always harping about wasting time and money. He didn't see his 18 minute tirade as wasting time. In ref to the data base the inspection folders (manila) were separated by date due. On more than one occassion the inspectors would travel 2 hours to do inspections only to retrace their steps a day or two later to do another inspection in the same area. He didn't see that if the inspections were listed by area and date it would cut costs, The sad thing was our secretary was computerizing the inspection files but they weren't searchable!
