Drall

By Blackbird888, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I'm just going to use SW:TOR as an example here, but Drall and Ugnaughts look about the same size and girth there.

But then SW:TOR is still firmly in the "Legends" realm and maby FFG knows something we don't about the Drall in the new Canon?

Probably because Drall already amazing.

And silhouette 0 would be to much for our furry overlords.

It's also a measure of the size of the species ego! :D

SWTOR did tend to make all Ugnaughts body-type 4 (the "fat" one). But if you look at the Ugnaughts in Empire Strikes Back, they're really no bigger than Jawas or Chadra-Fan:

Their smocks and other layers bulk them up quite a bit, but the underlying body is, at the end of the day, just a little person with a pig mask. In short, if we're counting girth as a factor in determining silhouette, I can see them as tipping into 0 rather than 1 territory.

You do know that we have determined in this thread that silhouette is based on body mass instead of height, eventhough the developers have said nothing of the like...

Who was that directed at?

Savage Bob, Concise Locket and others before them. The claim that silhouette is "mass abstrection" was made earlier and I have, myself, seen no evidence that it has anything to do with silhouette.

Only that it just has to do with height.

Ok, thanks.

Was just curious as you were not quoting anyone.

We're all just speculating here, so no worries. That silhouette has to do with mass rather than height seems the only way to account for the fact that Drall are silhouette 1 in my view. But it is all speculation until the devs tell us the real reason.

Yeah, no worries bob. I am as guilty of speculating as anyone else here. I just wanted to be the voice of reason for once.

Maby we could get a list of the height of species sorted by their silhuette?

(I don't have all the sourcebooks yet, so I can't do that)

Something like this:

Silhuette 0:
Jawas 1.5m

Ugnaughts 2.4m

Silhuette 1:
Humans 1.8m

Wookies 2.5m

(obviously completely made up and erroneous lenghts, just using randoms as an example)

That should highlight if there are any glaring discrepancies in some of the races.

I've thought about this a bit more. The measure is "silhouette," not "size" (like other systems may use). That implies that what we're talking about here is literally the silhouette of the critter in question. In other words, if the image of a typical member of a species is projected onto a flat plane, what is the surface area? By this metric, Drall in most illustrations come out covering a larger area than other short species.

Including R2 units?

Including R2 units?

Idunno. It'd be interesting to see someone actually make a visual aide to demonstrate the differences in silhouettes. I'd do it if I had access to graphics software, but I unfortunately don't. R2-D2 was just Kenny Baker crouching in a trashcan, so it's feasible they'd fall into the silhouette 0 range, too. But if Drall is the tame surface area as a large ottoman, maybe not.

I guess it comes down to what was said by the developer.. They are silhouette 1 because they needed to be.
