Incorrect Artwork in Books

By Darth Poopdeck, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Have you found anywhere in the released books, any artwork that is... wrong?

For instance, in the adventure at the back of the EotE Core book it shows the space port for Formos and it's raining in the artwork. Yet in the description for Formos it clearly states that it is very dry place where they sell water at high prices.

In that same adventure the artwork for the cantina doesn't match the description of it having a balcony.

Maybe the artwork takes so long to make that they just picked ones that match up as best they could?

It rains in Saudi Arabia.

Writing in books and commisioned art work don't always match precisely, depends on the level of art direction.

Arizona has been a drought for roughly 15 years, is a very dry place and it rains every summer during monsoon season, I have also seen it rain in Saudi. Being a dry place is relative to a person's opinion.

Artistic lic is a part of painting a pic, also it can be part of a story.

The images of the YV-929 show the turbolasers that were present in other game lines, but those weapons are not present in the FFG version.

It rains in Saudi Arabia.

Oh I agree, but if you are creating a picture of Saudi Arabia to show people what it's like there, I doubt you are going to want to show it raining.

Unless you're trying to show it does rain there, or you're looking to visually convey irony, or it's an image to demonstrate a place with little rainfall goes to extrordinary measures to preserve it.

It rains a **** ton in puerto vallarta and yet they've got poor drinking water infrastructure consequently private households need rain collection systems on the roof. My point is one shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

What you said could very well be the case, and may have been the thinking process behind the artwork. Personally I think it was that the timing of writing the adventure and painting the artwork was off. Which I understand, it's probably hard to commission artwork out ahead of completing the story and have them completely correct. Both scenarios could have happened.

And yet people assume it doesn't rain there LOL.

I'll be honest, I don't like the picture of the giant purple hutt next to the wookiee on page 66 of Fly Casual. I just think the hutt is way too big.

You know what artwork will never be incorrect? The one on p. 66 of Far Horizons.

"Is it safe?"

This is the one that bothers me:

Looks like that pilot is compensating for something...

Page 208 of Core Rule Book depicts a left handed Han Solo.

Or maybe he's just smarmy enough to say "I know something you don't know. I.... am not left handed!"

Um, it's just a &^%$ing picture.

In developing these books, they hire writers. They hire artists. They tell the artist the concept for the work desired. About a 6 months to a year later, the art work is done, usually behind schedule. With luck, around that same time, the writing is done as well. Then you have to edit the writing, you have to look at the art, and maybe even edit the art. Some choices are done for aesthetic purposes, other times it is just someone's whim. Usually any modification or editing to art work is done in house, and the artist does not do it. other times artwork can re-purposed to be something else.

in the picture you describe, it look more like smog/haze. maybe with a little bit of rain. This could be acid rain, vapor from a passing star ship, or just the artist/editors whim to show it looking really gritty. Maybe when the art order got put in the idea of this place really dry was not even in there, and the writer took that liberty.

While I am in this forum, I do try really hard to be nice, understanding, and not a complete *&^hole. This time I cannot. When looking at the title of the thread, I thought maybe it would be showcase what pictures were mislabeled, or give a run down of corrections of misrepresented images.

Instead I got some little **** complaining that in one picture it shows rain, when the text CLEARLY states it is very dry.

Waste of space on the server on forum board. It contributes ZERO to the community or the game. Again, normally I try to keep out my negativity, but this thread is ridiculous and a waste of time. It is a game and book about imaginary places. Time to get over yourself.

Star Wars artwork is never the same for anything. Deckplans for the Falcon, Ghtroc 720 never look the same from picture to picture, the YT-20O0, YT-2200, about every alien...Everything is always different because you have different people doing the artwork.

Oh my god! It has a balcony! The description says nothing of it! My illusion is shattered....

Ill go take my Xanax now...

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being amused by published goofs, or where the artwork doesn’t match the story. We all see those sorts of things in all sorts of places anyway, but publishers like FFG like to hold themselves to a higher standard of at least trying to get things looking right.

So, what’s the harm in having a chuckle at something like this?

Boba Fett Lives!!! On page 169 EotE shows Boba Fett flying out the Sarlacc Pit :)

Oh wow... I never noticed that!

Could be Boba Fett flying across the Sarlacc, just prior to the greatest upset in fandom history.

I like this thread.

Keep posting fun art finds. I think I am too engrossed in the rules when I am reading it so I don't notice the fun things as mentioned above!

Don't burst the bubble. If it was him flying over the pit before being swallowed he would have his blaster out :P

If you think that Hutt's big, check out the one on page 44 of Lords of Nal Hutta.

From where I'm sitting, the art looks more like it's depicting the scene from The Mandalorian Armor where Fett escapes the Sarlacc. Note the pitting on his armor- one of the things the novel described was pitting and scarring on his armor plates due to the acidic digestive juices of the Sarlacc.

The most significant art "gaffe" I've discovered is the use of the wrong Aurebesh characters in the Force Sensitive Exile talent tree on page 276. (It reads Force Shensitive Exile instead.) The core rulebook is in its third printing, and they still haven't fixed it.

Yikes, don't stress out about it man, it's all good and all in fun. I love the books and artwork, these books are AWESOME. I just thought some others might have some details to the artwork that they might point out too and from some of the post some do like this thread. It's not like topics are zooming down the board getting lost forever by other junk topics.

There is a picture of a marauder corvette I think in the core EotE book that has people walking up to it. The scale seems really off because the Marauder would be much bigger.

Dr. Who ship....smaller on the outside...
