Countdown to Gencon

By ID X T, in X-Wing

Gencon is almost upon and so begins my attempt to attend three Nationals...starting with Gencon.

It's also the furthest I have to travel, the other two will be Australia and New Zealand, which coincidently is where I am from. I fly out in a few days and I'm in mad rush to get everything done before I leave. Luckily I have a few days in LA first to hopefully alleviate any jet lag.

Anyway I am looking forward to playing at Gencon, though less pleased about the tournament structure, but oh well it's still a day full of X-wing. It's also my first time at Gencon so hoping to have a great time.

Who else is going to be there? Hoping we can organise some beers or something on Thursday night after the event so if you are keen let me know.

Looking forward to meeting at least some of you there,

Lincoln.

Are you going for the full event (Thursday-Sunday) or departing after the tournament closes on Friday?

I will be there all 4 days, as well as Wednesday night to relax from the drive up from Cincinnati and mentally prepare for the tournament. My first recommendation, as it's a huge tournament at a ludicrously large convention, is to arrive early to make sure you know where you're going. If you already have your badge and tickets, then you should aim to arrive about an hour before registration starts (2 hours before the tournament proper.) If not, then I'd get there an additional 2 hours before that, or pick them up Wednesday night (I'm assuming you intend to arrive in town before Thursday morning,) as they have registration and will-call open 24 hours starting Wednesday at around 4 in the afternoon.

I shall be there the entire con. I'll be playing in the X-Wing Nationals. I'm looking forward to it. :)

I'll be there, but not playing in any formal X-Wing events. If anyone wants a pickup game, I'm interested!

Looking forward to it!

Will be there for all four days. I will be playing in X wing and Armada depending on how X wing goes :)

I'll be there. I'm a little rusty in the X-wing department, but it'll be the one time i get to play that much X-Wing for a while. My entry fee is basically rental time for the game space and the purchase of the promo card. :)

Flying Casual will be in full effect (and on my T-shirt too!)

I'd like to request help from anyone making it to gencon, buying everything new in x-wing to report your findings on the new cards and rules (pup deployment), if wave 7 and/or the raider is available as an early pre-release.

This would help me tremendously for vassal.

I am also going, but I wasn't able to get into any competitive events. Hoping to get some x-wing in.

I would be a very sad panda if FFG doesn't have either Wave 7 or Raider available there (although my wallet will be very sad if they ARE there, so either way there shall be misery!)

Wave 7 i am still kinda skeptical on, but i would be surprised if the Raider wasn't available.

List of images of cards and rules we are missing for reference:

PS 6 YV-666 Pilot

PS4 K-wing Pilot

PS4 Punisher Pilot

Modification upgrade cards included in Hound's Tooth - "Maneuv... F..." and "Ion Pr..."

Elite Pilot Talent upgrade card included in Hound's Tooth and Kihraxz - "Crac..."

Adv Homing Missiles

K-wing Dial

Rules for Deploy (not a reference card, likely included in the expansion's rules booklet)

Reverse side of Nashtah Pup pilot base chit (I'm curious what the reverse side is since Bossk is displayed on the revealed side)

The punisher dial is known (and usable in the vassal module 5.3.3). The K-Wing's dial isn't.

edit- we could add:

Raider's dial

exact length of the gap between the Raider's 2 bases when the ship is assembled properly.

3 raider titles

Fore Raider damage deck

Aft Raider damage deck

Fore Raider damage card backside

Aft Raider damage card backside

anything missing?

I'll be there but I'm not playing either so I'm interested as well.

Good luck to everyone competing in the event! May the force be with you.

I'll be there, I'll be trying my luck at Nationals, and I'll be sticking around the whole event (like I always do, this is my first X-Wing Nats, but far from my first GenCon). I've always been scared off by the tremendous line at Fantasy Flight, but this year I'll certainly be taking the time to dip into their booth and see what I can see.

If anyone happens to be a Shadowrun fan, feel free to say hi if you catch me hanging around at the CGL booth, and make sure to pick up any cool new novels you see, hint hint. ;)

I love me some Shadowrun! I'll be around that booth for sure.

Gencon! I'm going! Is there a meet-up? I can probably do Thursday night if its later on.

Ahh.. meant K-wing dial.

Just listed Wave 7 stuff. Forgot about all those unknowns from the Raider.

I will be there all weekend, and it will be my first Gencon. I would love to play in the X-wing Nationals, but I missed out on the tickets. I'm at least hoping to get some games in for X-wing, Armada, and Imperial Assault. I'm just starting to learn the last 2.

I'm always excited for Gen Con. Gen Con happens to be in my back yard, proverbially speaking -- of course. :)
I've attended every Gen Con, save one, since they moved to Indianapolis from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. And I've enjoyed every minute of it. Although, I feel I need a vacation after Gen Con, just to recuperate . . . from Gen Con.
Some friendly advice for the Gen Con first-timers, take it slow. There is a lot to do in four days. And enjoy yourself.

Sable are you also gonna go for "Best dressed X-winger" award like you did at worlds? :)

My buddy and I are going to try to get into Nationals on generics. I'm relatively new with only few games under my belt but would love to play some different people and give out some easy wins.

With people getting in just for the promo, then dropping...you may have a chance. I would line up early, as i'm sure there are others with the same intention.

+1 on the advice to take it easy if it's your first GenCon. My go-to suggestion is to schedule one thing a day, and just leave yourself the rest of the time to demo new games, wander the vendor's hall (itself the size of many conventions), use generics to play stuff you wouldn't normally play, sit in on a few seminars for games or writers you like, wander downtown Indy and find some of the great places to eat (instead of getting the overpriced convention center garbage all the time), try some food trucks, etc, etc.

Generics are a must! With the new event system people usually sign up for everything and don't show. There's very few things I ever had trouble getting into and I rarely if ever buy an actual ticket.
