Summoned Stones

By AndrewMM, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Probably this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything.

1- Does Lava affect Stones? Core rules for Lava talk about figures, which Stones are not, so I'm not sure if they would be defeated by ending their activations there.

2- Can a Fire Breath be traced through a Stone? And if a Stone is attacked, can the Fire Breath be traced from it? Stones are obstacles, and as per rules, spaces cannot be counted through them, so I don't know.

1)stones, being familiars but not figures, treat all non obstacle terrain as water. this means pits, water, and lava hazards are all just water to the stone.

I would rule emphatically no and no. However, there is a note on the card that says they can be affected by attacks- to what extent that changes things is unclear. I will ask that question of FFG, but I have in the past always been on the "no" side of that because they are obstacles.

Those are interesting questions that I would like to know the answer to. Please post it up whenever you receive an answer.

I would say

1- No

2- Yes

but theses needs some FFG clarifications for sure

1)stones, being familiars but not figures, treat all non obstacle terrain as water. this means pits, water, and lava hazards are all just water to the stone.

Familiars treat special terrain as water during movement. Or that's what core rules say. I'd say this is "not 1 point damage for walking over lava", but nothing about lying there at the end of activation.

Correct- but most of those rules- even for water- specify "figure" which a stone is not. For example, if the shadow soul were summoned into a lava space, it would suffer no consequence at the end of its activation. I've submitted the question to ffg.

Turns out "can be targeted and affected by attacks" makes all the difference, and that those spaces are just water to stones- it can go for a dip in the lava.

Rules Question:
1) Do summoned stones (like other nonfigure familiars) treat special terrain as water? I assume they follow regular rules for elevation lines as treating that like water doesn't make sense.

2) Can a summoned stone be part of a fire breath attack? What if it is the first (target space) of such an attack? Thanks.

1) Yes, summoned stones treat special terrain as water.

2) Yes, a summoned stone can be part of a fire breath attack, as it can be “targeted and affected by any attack” (Summoned Stone Familiar Card). Fire Breath does not operate any differently if the stone is the first space. Normally, obstacles could not be counted through, however since summoned stones are given the exception of being able to be targeted and affected by an attack, they can be counted through for the purposes of being attacked (counting range to the summoned stone) or affected by an attack (counting for Fire Breath).

Thanks, as always, for playing!
