The Concise/Collected Repaints Thread. Keep Them All Here, Keep Em Visible.

By Gadge, in X-Wing

Looks approximately 10000x better.

I'm not a huge proponent of Citadel paints as a rule, but if you want an easy-to-use wash grab a pot of Nuln Oil. Mix two parts water to one part wash, and, with a larger flat brush, absolutely saturate the model and let dry. Leaves you with quick, easy, table top quality shading.

Nice man!

Good for you going back and repainting the checkers!

I agree that they look 100% better.

Scum and Villany Faction Gozanti-Class Cruiser.

I going to field this without the docking clamps, and without Dual Laser Turret as its Hardpoint Upgrade, but add Ordinance Tubes Upgrade instead. This then allows a Torpedoes or Missiles upgrade with the proviso that they are NEVER DISCARDED after use....Missile Ship par excellence. VERY nasty I'll warrant. I'll modify its movement somewhat as I've read that Gozantis had better engines in Imperial usage and make 4 straight and 3 straight moves impossible for this Scum & Villany version. The paint scheme is a nod to some of the other Scum ships which seem to have browns and reds prevalent on them....

Cheers,

Kev

Some WIP ships for a commission I'm working on...

yLQOY24.jpg

Basically... WOW! Those are simply stunning!

Really not the same level as some beautiful things we can see here, but here's my newly customized Red Squadron, ready to blow some Death Stars !

Those are really nice, very true to the originals and superbly painted!

Searching for a North America based commission painter who takes PayPal. Please PM me. Thanks.

Top job on the repainted chequers TurboDart. Everyone else's too. Love that scum Gonzanti, custom rules for it?

Using the previously mentioned advice, I painted over the checker fields on all the ships with gray, then drew a grid, and then painted in with a smaller liner brush starting with the white, then the black after that dried. There's a bit more touch up, and detailing to do. The T-65 I repainted to match the rest of the fleet, instead of black, and there's a headhunter that I had to repair the mount on that wasn't pictured earlier, also my two N-1s that I got in the mail finally for fun. Tomorrow I'm going to start the process of matching a Tantive IV to the fleet. Now that I have a handle on the smaller brush I am able to put in much finer details that I am trying out. I couldn't get an acrylic wash to work, it wasn't going down between the panels like i had hoped so I actually sat down with a mechanical pencil and lined in the panels on my K-wing to try. It looks good but it took about an hour just for the one ship. Should I be using oil based paint for the wash? Or do I need to use a seperated pigment paint?

Also thanks for the help guys, the difference in the checker pattern is night and day. Way better.

Now that the pattern is done on all of them I'm going for the details next and dirtying them up.

I'm not a big fan of acrylic washes. I much prefer washes made with oil paints. They don't have the surface tension that water thinned paints have. Place a little bit of oil paint on an index card and let it sit for 30 minutes. The card will adsorb some of the linseed oil and allow for the wash to dry faster. Use a thinner like odorless thinner to make your wash. Give it a couple of days to dry and flat coat the model with Testors DullCote.

I'm not a big fan of overall washes either. IMHO they darken the model too much. Much prefer a pin wash to bring out details.

I'm really tired of seeing Poe repaints, so I did a McQuarrie repaint.

The cockpit could have come out better, but I've never really been good at them.

Unique and sharp!

Great job!

For the cockpit there are a couple of techniques that may help:

- Use the edge of you brush to paint the grey edges of the cockpit. This is an easier technique than trying to paint straight lines.

- Perhaps try use a few layers of a black wash along the edges of the cockpit windows to create straight lines there also.

To be honest thought... The model's cockpit will look just fine on the table anyway, it all comes down to what you are happy with.

Emon Azzameen's Firespray-31 'Andrasta' is finished.....

First one interpretation of what it should perhaps look like....

....and my interpretation of the interpretation....

...and with that Twi'lek dancing girl motif (although there are perhaps at least three different version of this)

All in all, quite pleased I didn't make a total hash of this....

Cheers,

Kev

Brilliant work.

I love that you went with red instead of grey.

Welcome to tonight's episode of Pimp My Corellian Freighter.

Hand painted - start by painting a black circle and the Spikes then a white circle inside, much easier than trying to paint a thin black circular line straight off

If this has been posted this then oops. I don't know who made this but I think it sold on eBay once already. Someone does neat work.

How does he get the cockpit that detailed in a miniatures at our scale?

That is a regular T-70 Star Wars: X-Wing expansion that has been customized.

Somewhere on the web is a guy that use to make the masters for 1/285 scale armor. For GHQ, I think. He also did some SWs in our scale. It could be him. And no, before you ask, I don't have the web address. I ran across the site while hunting eBay. That would be the best place to start looking. Custom repaints and modifications.
