The Concise/Collected Repaints Thread. Keep Them All Here, Keep Em Visible.

By Gadge, in X-Wing

Some of My Ace's with simple repaints, Sprayed Black and then a simple drybrushing.

as I prefer drybrushing over black to Inking on Imperial vehicles because I think it looks tidier,

and gives a softer edge to the shading, Inking the models seems to suit Rebels better.

any way,

Here's some more Ties......

Hey Barry! I'm a big fan of your work! incredible mods and paint jobs! Especially like the newest Sith fighter... that's exactly what I think a Sith ship should look like :) I just have a question about your incredible dry brushing. I love dry brushing but I have trouble when it comes to fine detail dry brushing. what kind of brush/drybrush are you using for detailed work? I can't seem to drybrush without hitting parts around the targeted area... if I use a smaller brush it's not enough paint and if I use a larger one (like a standard dry brush) the bristles don't seem to want to stay in the designated area ;)

thanks a lot for your help/suggestions!

Keep your incredible work going!!

Hello Space Dragon,

thank you, i'm glad you like the Models.

I always like to share stuff and see what others are doing with regards to the creative aspect.

I use different sizes of "Chisel" or Flat brushes when I dry brush.

but I have found to get into those tight places, An angled chisel brush and a number 0 brush cut down to a flat tip....short.

great for getting into tight and small areas.

this allows me to stroke the area lightly with just enough paint to pick up on the surface.

the chisel brushes can also be used sideways.

I know dry brushing eventually damages and ruins the brush.

but i found that its better to use a good quality brush, as this allows the softer bristles to give a better finish.

a finer blend on the colour your dry brushing over.

Wow Polda those are incredible! I don't know how many other painters could stand to have the macro focus on their work but you are certainly one of them!

Thank you! Good thing I am not one to obsess over small details... he said painting over a pretty much invisible red dot on the E-Wing's astromech to make it go away :D

Wow, some fantastic work here! Inspirational stuff!

I jumped in on X-wing over Christmas, and being a painter first and foremost, wasted no time in sprucing up my models! I've posted these in a couple of other places, and thought I'd join up to share them here as well! Any thoughts, comments, suggestions and questions are more than welcome!

X-wing 1, Red Squadron-ish. I wasn't following any specific scheme, more aiming for the overall look and feel from the films, and with the help of some Vallejo Smokey Ink and some sponge weathering, I think it has worked!

And Number 2, with some heavier weathering along the leading edges of the wings and the side of the hull. The pics are a bit dark, the grey is actually the same shade as on the other X-wing

An A-wing in Green Squadron colours

And a Blue Squadron B-wing, again pretty beat up as these things can take more punishment than the As or Xs

The Rebel Squadron together:
That's all for now, as said any feedback is welcome! I'll be back soon with the Imperials, and later next week with my newest acquisitions, a Y-wing, the Falcon, and a TIE Bomber, Interceptor and Phantom.

Mind blown!

It's gonna be great when they release a Poe painted T70, and the community will already have them, with better paint jobs.

Well, then everyone can repaint the new Poe painted T70 to the white and blue paintscheme ;)

More painting for everyone! :D

And as a follow up to my last featuring post the rebels (which has now appeared on the previous page), my Imperial ships. Nothing quite as fancy as the Rebs here, just a wash over the original paintscheme and then markings and weathering.

Vader's TIE Advanced:
A pair of TIE Fighters with veteran markings
A plain Black Squadron
And a TIE with some white markings, no idea if they mean anything but it looked cool and gave me a nice canvas for some weathering.
More to come tomorrow, as I get around to photographing my Y-wing, Falcon, TIE Phantom, Bomber and Interceptor. Any thoughts welcome!

The TIE's look great! I really like your weathering effects! The only thing I'd say is missing are a pair of red dots for the twin ions on the back!

That, if anyone is interested, is a link to my Artist Page on Facebook. Not sure if this is an infringement or not, but please take note, I'm only sharing this so people can see my work and not as a business plug. You won't find any rates or prices there, just pictures of commissions I have completed for others.

Thanks for lookin, if you choose to do so!

Here's a question for other TIE-dyers out there: Painting the drives on most TIEs is easy enough...but where the devil are the engines on a Defender? The back is radially symmetrical, with no nubs like on all the others. Is it actually a Triple Ion Engine bird?

Nice Y-wing! Really fits in with the K-wings!

As promised, my next lot of minis.

First off, a TIE Phantom with obligatory cloaking/decloaking effect that I think has come out quite well for a first attempt.
Next, TIE Interceptor in Soontir Fel colours, love this ship design and it's a really nice mini.
And finally for the Imps, some ordnance in the form of a TIE Bomber:
And on to the heroic Rebellion/Terrorist Scum, a Y-wing:
And finally, the main event, arguably the most awesome ship in the history of awesome ships. I think this one looks really good, but then, you could probably colour one in with crayon and somehow come out with something that looks epic.
And the two collections thus far... I've not even been doing this a month! Heeeeeelp!
As ever, any thoughts welcome!
