Mata and Kata

By iConjuro, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hello!

Looking for some clarification on the familiars Mata and Kata.

1. Mata and Kata's speed is 6. Yet, they move independently of each other. Does this mean they can each move six spaces per turn? Or do the six movement points need to be split between the two of them?

2. Can Mata and Kata pick up coin piles?

3. Can Mata and Kata pick up rune-keys?

Thanks!

1. Their movement is for each of them. They may both move 6 spaces a turn.

2. No. They can carry potions or items.

3. No. See 2.

In the core book. It says on page 14 that Mata and Kata can be given or pick up and carry one item (including potions). As far as the RAW goes. They can pick up items on the ground and i think rune keys are inculed. However, I'm not so sure about piles of gold.

No, items are treasure items and town shop items, not rune keys.

Items, generally speaking, are things that the characters need to hold and manage (like weapons, armor, generally anything from the treasure or town item decks) and potions, as they also have "slots" the character can fill up. Rune keys, by comparison, as not held onto by anyone. As soon as someone picks it up it goes to a magical position that doesn't occupy anyone's bags and all heroes can open doors locked by that rune freely. That's not an item. Likewise, money doesn't take up space in a hero's bags, so anything coin-related is not an item.

I'm sure there are a couple of exceptions I'm forgetting about, but as a rule of thumb if it doesn't take up space in your backpack/item slots then it isn't an item.

Awesome, thanks for the clarifications, guys. Now I have some backup for when my heroes try to claim that keys and coins can be carried.
