r5-d8 + simultaneous attack

By treybert, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So this thread and a thread about Turr got me thinking. What happens if a ship was 'destroyed' but still allowed to make its attack (simultaneous attack) was able to fix one of its damage cards before the end of its combat? Is it still destroyed?

Lets say we have Cracken and Horton+r5d8 vs Juno (all PS 8). The imperial player has initiative, attacks, and deals Horton his exactly 5th face down damage card. Cracken attacks and gives a free action to Horton, who triggers R5-d8 and discards a damage card.

Does Horton blow up?

Covered in the FAQ (I think, it's covered somewhere). Once you get damage cards equal to your hull you are destroyed, regardless of fixing that damage later.

I've seen the same thing that Forgottenlore is pointing out.

While there are effects that can discard incoming damage cards (such as Determination) such that those cards never actually land if a ship does have damage equal to its hull value it is destroyed even if something would later cause a card to be discarded.

From reading the core, the ship is technically destroyed the moment its damage cards equals or exceeds its hull value. The exception is with simultaneous attack, which grants the ability to attack before being removed. Therefore, even if Horton was repaired, he would still be removed after his attack. Just a curious what if question.

The answer to this question is in my e-mail response thread. I posed a Airen Cracken and Luke with R5-D8 with Luke getting killed in a simultaneous fire situation but Airen granting a free action to activate R5-D8 before Luke fires.

Luke still dies as once the hull is equaled in damage cards, you are destroyed (with special circumstances if you in a simultaneous fire situation).

Another is Luke with R5 facing a double tap from Corran in the endphase. Corran's shot is at that start of the endphase, while R5 comes in in the middle of the endphase. Weird, I know, but that is what I got from Frank.

What about Luke with R2-D2, 1HP remaining, does a green onto a proximity mine which deals him 1 damage. Dead? Or did R2-D2 regenerate the shield before the prox mine did the damage?

According to the FAQ roll for damage first then recover shield.

Proximity deals damage upon collision

R2-D2 regenerates upon completion of maneuver
