Ruthlessness

By Deagles, in X-Wing Rules Questions

"After you perform an attack that hits, you must choose 1 other ship at Range 1 of the defender (other than yourself). That ship suffers 1 Damage."

So, how does one deal with this card? Try to have your ships not at range 1 of each other, but try to have his at R1 with one of yours??

Especially when playing Rebels as it seems its only available for Empire.

Thanks

The attacker wants one enemy ship inside range 1 of the defender. If there is such a ship, everything is fine. If there is not, the attacker should make sure none of his ships is that close to the defender.

The defender wants his ships spread apart with no one at range 1 of anybody else. Opponents at range 1 are a bonus.

Basically yes

If you have a ship equipped with ruthlessness and it performs an attack that hits - and you have a ship other than the attacker at range 1 of the defender, then that ship suffers 1 damage.

If there is more than 1 ship at R1 you get to choose which ship.

If the only ships at R1 are your own then one of those must take the damage.

If you do not want to risk damaging your own ship you may pass on performing an attack

Sweet. Thanks.

I assume this would trigger twice on Cluster Missles and the new Twin Laser Turret.

I might try running Ruthlessness and Cluster Missles with Lt. Blount:

"When attacking, the defender is hit by your attack, even if he does not suffer any damage."

Would guarantee 2 hits on one ship and the chance to get some through on another.

Can't. Sadly it's Imperial only. I've already thought of running it on Blount and someone else shot down my idea just like I'm doing to you now. Sorry.

Corrected that after I realized it. I guess Rebels are just nicer than Imperials. .

Unless it involves shooting Womp Rats in a canyon for fun and sport.

But then again, Imperials only shoot escape pods WITH life signs aboard them.

Pick your poison.

If that were true you'd let more women fly instead of oppressing them, we in the imperial navy recognize the worth of women.

That then - is why only the Empire has the Ruthlessness card.

After have been married for 23 years and having 2 daughters - I can attest to how relentless women can be.

Of course, you don't allow non-human races in...

Had so much fun with this one. It does a helluva job on the Empire's only ship with a turret, making it easier to pick a target from which you can ricochet Ruthlessness onto another enemy. Helps against swarms and helps against unweary high agility ships, that are otherwise hard to hit, that gets caught off-guard near a friend with fewer green dice.

N00b question about the wording on the card - it says that you MUST choose 1 other ship within range 1 etc...

What happens if there is no other ship within range 1?

Are you then unable to make an attack as the card's requirements can not be met?

Nope. If there's no ship other than yourself and the target in range 1 of the target, Ruthlessness doesn't do anything, but the attack goes ahead as normal. The MUST is there to point out that you don't get to choose not to use it if the only other ship at range 1 of the target is one of your own ships...

Scum is the one true meritocracy. Each according to their means!

All that being said - the Empire should be grateful that one of the strongest anti-swarm cards can only be used by the faction with the best access to swarm lists.

Pick your poison.

That part seriously made no sense. What justification exists for not shooting all escape pods? Conserving your seemingly limitless ammo?

Seriously? Go watch Episode IV again.
