So what is happening with Team Nats?

By Viewtiful_Joe, in UFS Uk Forum

As the title says, pretty much :P

There's a few people from Colchester wanting to go to Team Nats (unfortunately I very much doubt I'm going to be able to make it), and I was wondering for other people's sake what was going on with it. We don't know dates, place or anything that I'm aware of, nor do we know who was actually planning on going. Anyone know anything?

As far as i'm aware its going to be in Manchester in november (off the top of my head).

Actually, it's October 17th at Game 09. That's all I know, I don't even know who's running it.

i believe ross graham is running it although im not sure

OK, I'm confused that there has been a blockage was since I got all the info without really asking for it, so here it is:

Date: Saturday 17 October

Venue: Gamecon 09, Palace Hotel, Manchester (con website located here )

Time: Doesn't seem to have been announced yet, I assume it will be 11:00 since that would make sense.

Organiser: Steve Graham

Format: Standard (5 point shuriken)

...as for who's confirmed as going, there have been a lot of people saying they can't make it, but Patriot is sending 2-3 teams and Exit/Bishop Games is sending 1 combined team. I don't know of any others yet.

OK, I'm confused now, I can't even make the event so how am I organising it? Ross can you PM me a contact number and we can have a chat about this. Either that or anybody with T.O. experience want to volunteer?

...... O_o ???

OK, since it's at Game 09, I ran the events there last year and it is practically in my back yard so I'm happy to run the event.

Steve, I've sent you a PM. with my contact details and a few questions about prize support, etc

I will put a full post on these boards as soon as possible with details of the main event, side events, etc. If anyone wants to travel to this and is unsure whether they should start booking accomodation, I guarantee that there will be UFS at Game 09. From my limited involvement with the con this year I know that UFS is already in their schedule and has been left open to run any kind of events in addition to the Team Nationals which have already been confirmed.

The players from Patriot, Bishop and Exit are staying at the Etap Hotel and you can make a reservation here if anyone would like to join us. We will be bringing lots of consoles + fighting games, and lots of board games and I'm sure there will be the obligatory drinking/pool/chinese nights so if anyone would like to join us they are more than welcome!

I haven't done anything to promote this yet as I had been told a few times (wrongly!) that Steve was running it this year, and also no-one has asked me to run the event either so this is the first time I've become aware that there is a problem.

What kind of side events would people like to see at Game 09? I'm happy to run Sealed events, legacy, standard and whatever else people would like to see.

More details to come soon

I'd really be interested in a turnabout is fair play side event, The idea is that for the first game of each round you and your opponent play with his/her opponents deck. This could be really fun in UFS as you can build random combo decks to confuse your opponent to win the first game or you can go with the plan of taking a deck you know well to win the 2-3rd games. What do you guys think?

Or maybe a similar format I know of where you play with your opponent's deck for the entire round, and then get your own deck back to play in the cut? Which do people prefer?

erm, this brings up trust issues and while it is a cool idea i think it shouldnt be done, i would like a format where every round all players get a rotated out card as a special abillity and that card cannot be removed but can be tapped, but what ever you decide should be fun to play in :)

Hmm, I've ran similar events in Sheffield before. Are the stipulations we used to use for multiplayer games (global effects like To The Bone or Contemplation of Existence) what you had in mind, or was it something more along the lines of the 2007 Raw Deal Team Nationals where you had an additional character ability every round (E.g. Lu Chen Gains Rashotep's ability, or any version of Nightmare Geese gets an ability which doesn't suck)?

Alternatively I could always run the extended format I came up with a while ago, where all non-banned legacy character cards and character-only cards are legal, and you can run any card with a character-only ability if you are playing that character, but the rest of your deck must be legal for standard format. There was a banned list with promo Nakoruru, K', Ukyo, Nakoruru, Yun-Seong, starter deck Tycho and Kasumi Suzaku.

Trust issues in UFS?

UFS has one of the best playgroups in terms of mature decent people (It's the reason I'm playing again) there shouldn't be any trust issues to worry about, This isn't Yi-Gi-Oh and besides you will have your cards in full view all of the time anyway. And just to be safe after the first game you can allways count your deck. I think it could be a laugh to try it but the idea of Ross's is sweet too.

the character card thing would be cool ross, aslong as promo morrigan and rare lilith were in the tornie. there has been very rare cases of cards going missing before thats why i would prefer the mystery tornie it would be cooler because as i remember when that tornie happened in sheffield where we swap decks everyone hated it and said never again

I like the sound of this but i will also say that if you did do this i would run without question Felicia With Feline spike and Yi Shan Support and i just think that would be too broken in the format! heck im sure id be hated by alot of people if i brought the spike back....

My thoughts! Theo

No argument there, the banned list is quite old and Feline Spike should definitely be added to it. There's no reason why we can't do several side events, is there anything else people would like to see?

OK, I'm still trying to confirm what prize kit there will be for UFS, but since the event is only 2 days away the side event is likely to be a standard format deck swap event since this means that people don't need to spend time building extra decks, etc and can just play with whatever they have with them. If anyone would like one I'm happy to run a sealed event as well.
