I'd normally advocate 'use it or lose it' but it looks like that wasnt the case with painting sub forum so lets hope that this doesnt get closed down too...
Lets hope we dont lose this one too eh?
why did the paint forum move? not that i mind. as i actually use it more now...
Yea what happened to the Painting Forum? I don't actually use it, but it seemed used by others.
It got closed, and all the posts that were in it were shunted into the main forum. Because reasons.
"because reasons" what??? somebody dis Disney? FFG? To many NON-X-wing ship repaints??? Just curious as i said i now actually look at it more often as i don't have to jump forums.

To many buy my stuff at shapeways topics.
You do not sell illegal models on the doorstep of the best producer of STAR WARS Products... bad style and we are paying for it now.
Good job... you screamed about your wares until the mouse noticed .
got it... yeah that's poor form and or just tacky.. just like every so often some person with like 17 total post comes up and starts pushing "laser whatever" products... or alt art cards etc.... on a related note i am a member of a motorcycle site and before they allow you to post "For sale" item you have to have been a member for awhile. No joining to just sell stuff!!

I know a lot of us want models NOW... but I am willing to wait for the REAL Toys from FFG. I did not minis some of the shapeways topics... but it went to far. So FFG quietly and politely pulled the rug. I get it... but I don't have to like it.
I started Battle Builders a while back and so we crazy space ship hardcores get a lot of fun there now.

Can you show some evidence of this being the reason?
I disagree with this reasoning for 2 factors:
1. The sub-forum's posts were just moved the main forum page.
2. Most of the posts there were anything BUT "buy my stuff at shapeways topics". It was mostly people showing off their FFG product repaints and the odd "I have created this thing" (which as I recall, never would have impeded on FFG's sales).
No doubt there was a reason for removing the sub-forum, but I can't believe this was the reason.

Maybe they can replace it with a "Whine about turrets here" subforum.

I am not going to point out the recent half dozen topics which all promoted the shapeways products offered for X-Wing & ARMADA; all of which I have bookmarked in my custom galleries links.
Because... that is calling out certain people... and that is about as not cool as the painting forums going into the soup.
God please no..lolMaybe they can replace it with a "Whine about turrets here" subforum.
But then we wouldn't have to wade through it to find real topics.

Those threads are still there Joe (and will be bumped back onto page one of the main forum shortly).
If your reasoning was correct, FFG would simply have removed those threads and warned about posting non-FFG content. That was not the case, was it?

Yeah they are still here but now they have to be found. The custom board is prolly what got the mouses attention. FFG wants to try to be cool so they did not kill all the topics.
That is how I read it anyhow...
From the tournament rules:
Ship models may be painted as desired as long as the alterations are not offensive and do not adversely affect another player’s experience. The size and shape of a ship model cannot be modified in any way.
The rule about not allowing proxies can be understood as FFG making sure you actually buy their product in order to play their game. The rule about altering the size or shape of a ship, however, is probably a requirement of the license.
So my guess would be that one of FFG's resident lawyers reviewed the forum structure and decided that while FFG isn't responsible for the content posted here, offering their tacit support to modding ships (via the existence and title of a subforum), as well as the occasional appearance of ships that aren't canon, might trespass on the terms of the license. So the content is back in the main discussion forum, where the terms of use give them reasonable deniability, but the subforum itself is gone.

Your wording here sounds **** near perfect. Have you studied law? Very well written and explained. Makes perfect sense.

No, but:
(1) I have two good friends here who are attorneys, and we shoot the breeze a lot. Occasionally I get to pick their brains about stuff that makes me curious. Mostly that means criminal trials and civil rights law, but not always!
(2) I wrote fan fiction as a teenager (before doing so online was a thing, thankfully!), and studied up quite a bit on licensing and IP law back then (before doing so was made easier by online research, unfortunately).
