Help me fine tune my Scum Fett list

By Striker McBain, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Soontir has been everywhere at my local shop. So much so that I decided to make a list that specifically targets him. I have had decent luck with this list but it can still struggle:

Boba Fett w/ VI, EU, Tactician, Autoblaster Cannon 51 points

Kavil w/ VI, EU, Unhinged Astro, Autoblaster Turret 32 points

Black Sun Soldier w/ Dead Man's Switch 15 points

98 total

I have had great luck with Fett using the boost and PS10 to get into range 1 for the autoblaster. I know it is not a popular choice but given the prevalence of Interceptors it has been invaluable and capable of taking a TIE off the board in one attack. The Tactician seemed to go against my plan, but I can't guarantee I will always be in range 1 and the stress normally allows me to get into range 1 next turn.

The thought was that I could have a "mini-fett" with Kavil doing the same thing to get into range one. Sadly I'm always boosting and 3 unmodified dice aren't that impressive even if they sneak past green dice. The Z is just there for filler.

Every game I play Fett does very well other than we he gets blocked by swarms. Even then his ability kicks in and allows him to wreak havoc and become difficult to bring down. I feel very action inefficient since I am always boosting. If I give up the VI then I lose my ability to outmaneuver Fel. The K9 Security Droid crossed my mind but the target lock isn't that necessary with Fett's ability. Kavil, who has always done well for me without Fett, just doesn't seem to do the damage he needs to (although I could blame some of it on rolls). The Z just does Z-95 things, which is mostly die or sometimes end up where I don't want him to be.

Any help or suggestions would be great. I like Fett as he is or close to it, but I feel like his support is sorely lacking. Fett is half my list yet always has to do about 90% of the work. I'm thinking Kavil has to go since his damage has just been so low for his cost. I also leave the 2 points shy to allow my opponents to have initiative and move first for Kavil against PS9s.

I totally understand where you are coming from. This weekend I ran:

Scum Boba w/ VI, EU, Recon Spec, Autoblaster (52)

Scum Kath w/PTL, EU, K4 (48)

I had the exact same thought with Boba (to hunt interceptors and phantoms) and he delivered, obliterating those ships with the autoblaster, but the problem you mention “very action inefficient” really stood out for me. At range 2 or 3 he was fairly toothless. Plus, with so many two-ship builds, having an enemy ship at range one doesn’t happen as often as I’d like. I’m thinking gunner might be a good fit, as that can be used at any range and add some insurance to attacks when you are boosting.

You could try Kath for support. I know PTL with a Firespray is not well received, but Kath was a beast, often getting three actions per turn. Shooting 4 or 5 out of the back with a TL and focus is sick, plus you still have an evade token for defense.

I just ran a Fett/Kavil list recently and it was quite successful.

Boba Fett - VI, Rec Spec

Kavil - Blaster Turret, Predator

N'dru Suhlak - Lone Wolf, Cluster Missiles, Hull

Total 100

The enemy list was Howlrunner, 3 Academy, Whisper.

I don't like bogging the Firespray down with too many situational upgrades, I just don't feel comfortable putting a Fat Turret's worth of points on one. Boba lean and mean. This list just rolls and rerolls red dice. I guess I'd call the list 'Loaded Dice.'

Trade Autoblaster for a Proton Bomb immediately.

PB's area of effect is far higher, and the threat of it severely impacts how Fel will fly.
Moreover, Fel has a high crit-vulnerabilty, getting severely impacted by 27/33 of the damage deck.
Seriously, everything but Stunned Pilot, Blinded Pilot, and Munitions Failure can disrupt his defenses enough for an immediate kill, and that's not getting into the astonishing terror of the permanent effects.

Hell, Direct Hit puts him on death's door. DH him, and you only have to hit him once more.

Meanwhile, Autoblaster's range continues to be too small to use the gun's otherwise decent stats, particularly against a ship as agile as Fel.

I might consider trading the other two ships for a ship with a Gunner ability. Like IG-88B, but then I'm just copying SableGryphon's amazing Fetty-Eight build.

What about my Fetty-Eight Build :P But yeah, tactician and autoblaster don't synergize well at all...it's like having so many answers for a problem that none of them are very good. You're better off swapping the AB for a PB or swapping tactician for a RC or something like that.

Also dead man's switch...*shudders* just don't

Dracon is spot on if you are worried about Fel specifically, or other similar ships. For your existing list, I would drop Black Sun's Dead Man's Switch for Predator on Kavil...that way he can modify some of his autoblaster shot after boosting. If you do not need a boost, you have a focus + reroll to get the most damage through.

This list is tricky though. I prefer to have at least two blockers for a couple of big guns like that, and with all the upgrades there is no room.

If you really want to take care of Soontir then try this:

Boba Fett (Scum) (39)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Binayre Pirate (12)
Feedback Array (2)

Binayre Pirate (12)
Feedback Array (2)

Binayre Pirate (12)
Feedback Array (2)

Binayre Pirate (12)
Feedback Array (2)

Boba is pretty basic, but the Pirates with Feedback Array will zap Soontir and other such targets right out of the sky.

Fel would have to be flown pretty poorly to get zapped by binayre pirates...

Tactician on Fett has a better chance of snagging Fel, imho.

If you're worrying about getting blocked what about Inertial Dampeners?

Seems strange, but if TIEs are blocking the field maybe you can turn it to your favor with ID, then next round speed on past them for Auxiliary shots. You will still likely get hit, but pair it with two a Binayres to clear the path and you might have something.

Some points are interchangeable (Blaster Turret, RecSpec), but squeezing two Binayres instead of a Black Sun Soldier should help.
