Different kind of ace pack?

By Krynn007, in X-Wing

Just had a thought while reading a post about shuttles

What would yas think of some large ship ace packs?

I'd love to see new pilots and titles for the shuttle and firesprays for the empire.

Maybe even give us a imperial fett worthy of his ability

(for my favorite star wars character I was pretty disappointed how lame his ability is for the empire. Doesn't quite fit imo)

But having new pilots for some of the large ships would be sweet

And paint jobs for those of is who can't paint

They cost to much for Aces.

It might happen... but I would not hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

;)

Not really, they cost about the same, except instead of two small ships, you get one large

I'd be down for that

Although I'm not opposed to a large ship ace pack, I'd rather see another wave of small ship aces for Rebels and Imperials first. As a Rebel player an ace pack for Y-Wings that allow EPTs would be of special interest.

Seems to me the ywing has had a lot of love recently

(Also let's face it, shuttles are something we hardly ever see in top spots at tournaments.

Kind of like bombers and defender)

However an elite slot on a shuttle would be awesome.

Especially if your flying the Emperor around. He would only have the best. Makes sense to me

Never know maybe they'll surprise us sooner than later.

Probably is wishful thinking

A Most Wanted style pack would work better than a single large ship Aces pack.

They would of done it by now... don't hold your breath, just buy the glory that is The Most Wanted Expansion.

I could definitely see a Scum aces with a Firespray+1 or 2 other ships for around $40.

I could see a ace variant pack that features a new large ship repaint plus a small ship. Like a new shuttle and a Bomber. Or maybe even a smaller huge ship that comes with a large ship escort. Like imagine the Wild Karrde with a new Firespray model.

They would of done it by now... don't hold your breath,

They would have done it by now? When? The first aces pack is only a bit over a year old.

Meanwhile in the real world...

First of all. The starviper and the syck could be buffed or have new aces. So that's probably the scum aces pack.

I would be totally fine if they just released aces packs (one for each faction) until new awesome canon ships (Episode 7 stuff) can be released.

It would give them a chance to tweak some ships that need love and not have to delve too deep into the EU barrel.

Shuttle could use some love for sure. The syck is the scum ship that needs the most help. That ship needs lots of help. The top end pilots skills make no sense or lack a EPT the low end pilots are decent but subpar for the points.

Ewing would be the best for rebels.

The syck needs some new pilots and upgrades. It is probably the least useful ship out there right now. Too many points to make it useful on too fragile a ship.

The shuttle is mostly ok as far as what it does but some new pilots would be nice. The empire needs some more synergy right now or another way to mess with the scum be they regular scum or rebel scum.

The Ewing needs a slight bounce. Corran is at least good but the others are rarely seen.

Call me harsh, but I still don't see what they blazes a shuttle is doing floating around in the middle of combat.

I mean, picture this:

Imperial Fighter Squadron briefing room...

Briefing Officer: "Men, we're going up against some of the best pilots the rebel scum has. Rumour has it, it might even be some of their infamous Rogue Squadron."

Pilot: "Are we using the Defenders or the Interceptors, sir? Or maybe the Phantoms??"

Briefing Officer: "No, we have something that will instil fear into their very heart. Man the shuttles!"

Stunned looks all round....

(for my favorite star wars character I was pretty disappointed how lame his ability is for the empire. Doesn't quite fit imo)

Tracking his target doesn't fit?

Stunned looks all round....

From the Rebels too, when they jeeringly fly towards them and then get utterly obliterated.

Lambdas have some serious firepower.

Call me harsh, but I still don't see what they blazes a shuttle is doing floating around in the middle of combat.

Thematically, the Rogue Squadron books had Rogue Squadron, when on operations without a supporting capital ship, accompanied by a shuttle that assisted with targetting, long range scanning and picked up EVA pilots. That's the role the shuttle was designed to serve in X-Wing: it coordinates and supports Imperial squadrons.

That, and you've also made the assumption the shuttle was sent into combat. It's entirely possible that a match involving a Lambda is a Rebel ambush, and a match with a lot of shuttles is a convoy raid.

Well let's say they keep doing aces packs for small ships.

Along with new releases, it only be a matter of time before large ships like shuttles and firesprays (imperial more than scum) will start to lag behind the rest. Honestly it seems that whenever you do see a shuttle in play 9 times out of 10 it's an Omnicron pilot. Maybe wave 7 will change that, but point wise an Omnicron pilot is the best deal.

I'd be OK if they included new pilots and upgrades for them in a different expansion pack, but I think it only be a matter of tike.

Adding new models with new paint jobs and upgrades/pilots would just increase sales I believe.

As we all know we end up buying whatever plastic Crack they release.

Again I think the shuttles are lagging behind. How many have been in top spots during store championship, or regional season?

Maybe an ace pack that includes a shuttle and a bomber?

Now that would be sweet!

Why not?

Ya it cost a little more, but if you only had to buy one, that's not bad.

Overall it still be cheaper than stuff people buy for Warhammer, and people buy epic ships, and hardly use them (like myself)

I don't think it cost much more than a decimator

Decimator retail for 50 bucks in my area

Shuttle retail for 35 and a bomber is 19 bucks.

Meanwhile in the real world...

You mean the real world of pretending to fly little plastic spaceships while making zoom and pew pew noises? :P

I don't know if we'd get a ywing ace pack

Seems to me the ywing has had a lot of love recently

Repeat after me:

There is no such thing as too much love for the Y-Wing.

There is no such thing as too much love for the Y-Wing.

There is no such thing as too much love for the Y-Wing.

There is no such thing as too much love for the Y-Wing.

assimilation complete :)

This. Rogue Squadron used an (unarmed) shuttle to coordinate the logistics, assist with target locks (Kagi anyone?) and play a command ship role during strikes.

Given, this was because Wedge insisted Tycho be the XO, and the rest of the rebels didn't trust Tycho, and therefore refused to give him a ship with weapons... But that's not the point!

Edit:

Also, one of the reasons you don't see the named pilots that often on the shuttle is because of the way the pilots scale. I've been thinking this for awhile now, but haven't gotten around to putting it in words yet.

The efficiency of the shuttle comes from its 3 attack dice and pretty good durability for only 21 points. When you step up to Kagi, you add 7 points for +6 pilot skill, and his ability. The 7 point cost is pretty standard (1 pt per PS, and then normally 1-2 points for the ability). However, on a shuttle, that's a 33% increase to the base cost.

If we take a look at the E wing, Corran is basically the only pilot that's seen. And he's often seen at 46-49 point range (VI/PTL, FCS/AdvS, R2D2, EU), call it 45 since that's the cheapest version without the EPT. Now, the same E wing build, but from a knave is 8 points cheaper, meaning it's only a 21% increase to jump up +7 PS, and to gain an ability.

So you end up with expensive ships going for named pilots, and cheap ships going for generics. But right now, high PS is worth more, so low cost ships, and in return, low PS ships, aren't common. As the meta shifts, this will change.

Obviously there are exceptions (panic attack, BBBBZ, and Han + ZZZ) but in general, you're not seeing "cheap" ships these days, so the shuttle, along with the Syck, aren't doing too well in the meta.
