So I took part in a tournament yesterday, where each player had to bring along 2 lists for 2 different factions, which were then to be alternated each round. So list 1 would rounds 1, 3 & 5 whilst list 2 would be for rounds 2 & 4.
So I went with the following:
List 1 (Rebel) - 3 x Blue Squadron Pilot with Manglers & Fire Control System
1 x Prototype Pilot with Refit
List 2 (Scum) - Guri with Autothrusters, Virago & Fire Control System
Serissu with Stealth Device
Laetin A'Shera with Heavy Scyk & Mangler
Cartel Spacer with Heavy Scyk & Flechette Cannon
The rebel list is one I've used before, including a 2nd place in my last tournament, so I was hopeful of getting some wins with it. The scum list however, I was unsure about. I love the look of the Scyks, but have never won with them and expected them to be destroyed in a hurry.
* Please note this is from memory so some things may have been accidently forgotten or missed!
Round 1: List 1 vs corran Horn, Biggs & 2 Z-95
After a couple of rounds of closing in, Biggs was taken out from 2-3 shots from my b-wings, whilst the Z-95's following shortly after in exchange for a A & B-wing, the A-wing being one-shotted by Corran. It came down to my remaining B's against Corran, the E-Wing however couldn't withstand the B's firepower and he was destroyed a few rounds later. I did get some good green dice with my B's which helped negate quite bit of damage.
Win 100-44
Round 2: List 2 vs Kath, Torkil & Kavil
Wasn't overly confident of my chances in this one. I started in the corner facing Kath, whilst the HWK and Y-wing were in the middle. After following behind Kath at range 3 as we heading towards the otherside of the board after turning in, only 1-2 damage was exchanged as the HWK and Y came into range.
I went for the Y-Wing and destroyed it after a few rounds for the loss of 2 M3-A's, the Cartel and Serissu if I remember correctly, and turned my attention to the HWK as Kath headed away in the opposite direction. The HWK was taken out after a few more shots and with Kath the other end of the table, I turned back in to see if I could take her out.
After a few rounds of chasing, and no EU on Kath, with fire being exchanged and my last Scyk being taken out. In the end we both turned in for a final face off between Guri and Kath. Guri survived the opening shot from Kath, who was then taken out in the return fire by Guri.
Quite a close game and I was greatly impressed by my scums performance.
Win 100-65
List 1 vs 5 Tie Bombers with Proximity Mines (1 also had assault missiles)
Thanks to my squad being 99pts I got the initiative, which was a massive help.
I set up spaced out to avoid the Assault missiles, and banked in to close in on the bombers, in what seemed to be a poor muddle of positioned ships. What followed was Hull being chipped off bombers here and there, mainly through a lack of focus fire by myself. And after exchanging a bomber (with the missiles) for a B-Wing, I was losing and just not doing enough damage.
A couple mines were dropped in the centre, which made maneuvering tricky. I finally dropped another Bomber and time was called a couple of rounds later, with no further ships killed.
Win 43-28
List 2 vs 4 x BBBBZ
Possibly one of the worst lists to face, loads of health, loads of firepower. I expected this to end quickly.
We set up in opposite corners and then swung in towards the centre, with Guri swinging around higher. My Cartel coming up through the centre and parking behind an asteroid ready for the upcoming slaughter of my ships.
My opening salvo did 2-3 damage to a B, before Guri took fire from a B and Z, suffering 1-2 hits. My Cartel Spacer was the subjected to fire from 3 B's, but to mine and my opponents amazement suffered just 1 damage!
The following turn saw some more damage to a few B's, one losing its shields, before Guri was taken out. The following turns saw 2 B's being destroyed, with Serissu's Stealth Device earning its points, as well as her re-rolls for my other Scyks.
Time was called during the dial phase, so we both knew that this was the last turn. The most heavily damaged B survived my fire, but I had left my Cartel in arc of a B, which subsequently took it out, handing the modified win to my opponent.
This was possibly the most tense and exciting game I've played in a while. We weren't sure who had won until right at the end. Once again my Scyks were very impressive, putting the Starviper to shame. To be fair though, my opponents red dice were average at best, whilst my green dice were good.
Lost 44-53
List 1 vs Fat Han & Corran
I though I had a good chance in this game. I set up in the middle with my A further on the right. He placed Han on my left and Corran far right. I sent my A to annoy Corran and Han the B's exchanged fire.
Corran ignored my A and powered to double attack a B taking it out, whilst I followed Han around. After taking out the shields, Han was struck by some crits, which sadly due to his Determination were discarded. I then managed to finally destroy him a few turns later. However during that time my B's were in a bad way and were taken out by Corran.
What followed was Corran vs my A, with constant k-turns and arc dodging. With my A-wing unable to do any lasting damage due to Corrans R2D2. Finally I made a poor positioning decision, which allowed Corran to kill my A-wing.
We both agreed that if determination hadn't discarded 2 crits then my B's might have been in better health for battling Corran, but it wasn't to be.
Lost 55-100
So I ended 3-2 after starting with 3 straight wins and 10th place overall, out of 29. I was more than pleased with that and love my M3-A's even more than before.
I need to decide whether the A-wing could be better spent on upgrading the B-wings, possibly making one Keyan? It just didn't seem to do enough.
After being worried about using Scyks, it turns out they were my star performers, standing up to firepiwer from multiple B's as well as Kath. Guri had a mixed day, good in the first game, average in the second.
