Future Armada ship designs

By Calenath, in Star Wars: Armada Off-Topic

It may well be at the table already, or close by the drawing board/pc, but what about you guys who work exclusively with Armada pick up a couple of old West End Games Star Wars RPG books for some ideas? The Rebel Alliance player's handbook and the Empire's player's handbook come to mind first and foremost. Inside each of these books is a full-page silhouette of each and every ship used in each navy during the Galactic Civil War. This should help fill out the map. The Dreadnought Cruiser, Imperial Assault Shuttle, Carrock Class Cruiser and the Interdictor Cruiser are just a few of the ships used by the Empire. For the Alliance there is the Corellian Gunship, Assault Frigate Mk1, Escort Carrier, and Mon Calamari Cruiser variants like the Mon Remonda. This Cruiser had the wing looking superstructure to the left and right of the main body of the ship. It was destroyed at Endor by the Death Star. Just some thoughts. Was also curious about future waves as I'm sure these are being considered already?

I don't think the Mon Remonda was in the Rebel Alliance Sourcebook The only place she was fully statted was Cracken's Threat Dossier AFAIK. And she was destroyed at the Battle on Mon Calamari about 6 years after Endor. In fact I believe she was commissioned after Endor because she was an early MC80B. The first battle I remember her being mentioned in was the Battle of Coruscant a couple of years post-Endor. And those books didn't list every ship used by either navy much less both of them a few of the most common ones.

That said I would love to see the ships from them in Armada and many of the ships FFG has created for the RPG as well. While most of them would fit a scum faction better then either of the mains IMO I could see most of them easily appearing in Alliance fleets if FFG doesn't do a scum Armada faction.

True the Mon Remonda was not in the Rebel sourcebook, totally forgot that. I remember Cracken's threat dossier just barely. Scum faction would be a great idea. Different time line's should be possible too especially from Clone Wars era, or even Yuuzhan Vong war.

While I would love the Vong War, even if most of the non-Vong ship designs were from the GCW, I seriously doubt that would happen. The Clone Wars are more likely but still only a slim chance of happening IMO because FFG's miniatures department seems to dislike the idea of using PT ships.

Don't you even mention the Vong!

Vong, Vong, Vong, VONG!

Still like I said the odds of the Vong appearing are about 2% Slightly lower then that of the 2nd GCW's Confederation or the FOTJ era designs appearing. (A pity. While I hate LOTF and FOTJ as wholes there are some ships introduced in them which I would love to see in the RPG and minis games.)

I would really like to see the following:

Rebels

Z-95 headhunters

VCX-100 Light Freighter (Hero Version is Hera Syndulla) (A.K.A the "Ghost" from Rebels)

Pelta Class Frigate (Title card: Phoenix Home) (Commander card: Jun Sato)

GR-75 Transport (maybe with a new escort objective type or in an E-War/Support role)

Imperial:

Arquitens-Class Light Cruiser

Goaznti Cruiser (Imperial Version of the GR-75 - Slower but better defenses)

Lambda Class Shuttle

VT-49 (only non-canon ship on the list but it just looks cool).

All of these ships are canonically in use during the Galactic civil war (except the VT-49 of course).

VT-49 is canon because it appears in at least one of the canon mobile games.

I really want to see a Venator. Maybe we can see some of the older ships as part of a scum and villainy faction.

As far as ships, I want an interdictor, I think it would make a very interesting ship for armada.

Also I want to get some TIE Defenders :(

I'm not so much for a specific ship, but ships lacking one type of upgrade for a double of another could be interesting...

Just give me an AFmk1 and no one gets hurt.

A dreadnought for the empire and an assault frigate mk1 for the rebels would be cool; the keel used two very different ways

Ships I'd like to see/I think are probably likely:

Rebels

-liberty-type cruiser (RotJ/canon)

-marauder-class corvette (SW: EaW/legends)

-assault frigate mk1 (SW: R/legends)

-dp20 frigate (SW: EaW/legends)

-pelta-class frigate (Rebels/canon)

maybe the gr-75 if only because it's a canon ship and there were a bunch at endor. it's so small though I dunno how it would work in armada unless they came in like a squadron of 2?

Imperials

-the finalizer-type star destroyer (SW:TFA/canon)

-arquintens-class (rebels/canon)

imobilizer 418 (games and the tarkin novel/canon)

dreadnaught-class cruiser (various games comics etc/legends)

Gozanti maybe, but again its a very small ship so I dunno

that and new fighter packs that feature some of the legends ships, so tie defender, phantom, punisher, imperial shuttle etc for imperials, e-wing, k-wing, z-95 for rebels.

Considering how small the Scum ships are, yet still getting included in Armada - I could see the Transports (Gozanti and GR-75) working a similar way- being on fighter-type bases, one to a base.

I'd like to see freighters, assault transports or stormtrooper transports and rules for boarding actions. Freighters could take a support role in the fleet, such as hanging out engineering tokens. A nice logistics/assault pack would be:

IMPERIAL

Bulk freighter (small base)

Shuttle (single miniature on squadron base)

Assault Transport (single miniature on squadron base)

2x Stormtrooper transport (squadron base)

The rebel equivalent would be something similar, using canon ships. Add in a proper miniature for a space station, and then you can have many, many missions revolving getting a freighter docked, capturing a freighter / station, capturing capital ships, assassinating characters on shuttles.... It would really shake up the game and can be done with 3 blister packs - Imperial logistics/assault, Rebel logistics/assault and a space station.

You could also purchase an upgrade card to have your admiral eject in a shuttle when the flagship dies, and then re-dock with another ship!

Awesome ideas, but it's highly unlikely FFG will ever release any of those, as they'd only be useful as scenario pieces and that just isn't the focus of the game.

Luckily for you, though, others have gone ahead and done it anyway :D

Bulk Freighter

Shuttle

Assault Transport

Stormtrooper Transport

Rebel Transport

Space Station

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the escape shuttle upgrade card .

As long as the Stupid Vong aren't brought back I'm totally fine with any ship they can come up with.

Its better if things arn't fully stated, but just placed between two objects. Like, a victory was weaker and slower than a star destroyer, but stronger than a nebulon B!

And a loose role/purpose.

It seems to me like failing to fully stat ships would be a nightmare because different people will have different interpretations of what the rough data means. And it would make tournaments with more then one judge hellish if different judges intercept the same ship differently.
