Did we just lose a sub-forum?

By DraconPyrothayan, in X-Wing

Removing the customizing forum means they can claim that they are not actively promoting such behavior.

This seems to be a likely scenario, after all there might be some legal fine print we plebians know nothing about. It's still stupid and idiotic but copyrights, intellectual properties, trademarks and licences is a dark, overgrown jungle where sane people fear to tread. For corporations it is often better to be safe than sorry.

They could have just renamed it to "Show your x-wing collection" or whatever, and still not promote repaints

I get it... but I don't like it.

If people would of just posted custom made personal use models and repaints the powers that be would of let it ride low key and cool style.

These buy my stuff at shapeways postings ruined it... period.

I tis a fact or a theory? All I've heard was that it was because of Internal conflicts at ffg. They took down the Imperial Assault painting forum too, and there's no mods or shapeways stuff there.

The result of even-handed and rather polite justice my friend

;) .

All I've heard was that it was because of Internal conflicts at ffg.

Have you heard additional information about a conflict, or are you just misquoting the email from up thread that said "internal concern"?

"Internal concern" can mean absolutely anything guys. There is ZERO information that can be deduced from that phrase. It is corporate speak for "because we say so". It means they don't want to tell us their reasons.

Some of us here are smart enough not to need to be told.

;)

FFG handled it well, and they are being very polite and cool about it all.

^_^

Yeah, Internal Concerns is what I heard. I forgot the exact words.

Well that's just an assumption then, and an obvious one at that. I'm more interested in the actual reasons for it.

So did they actually give us a reason, or just decide to pull it without notice? My opinion of this company is getting lower and lower.

I mean, I should have learned when we had Wave 5 Gencon mess. Or the wave4 no Falcon for a year. Or the Wave4 crap shoot.

We recognized this, FFG! Give us the subforum back! Or should we call you 'GW'?

DAT...

Vamers-FYI-Movies-Disney-Acquires-LucasF

We fought for a long time to get that sub-forum created.

I feel like we've been defeated today.

Tell me about it, i was really pleased when i managed to persuade Evan the mod to give us subforums to stop interesting posts being lost in a flood of 'omg this is broken' posts.

Noooo don't give them any ideas! If you start calling them GW they might start hiking up the price for models! :D

So this was all about copyright nonsense?

So this was all about copyright nonsense?

Until they start blocking content and users it would be hard to make that case since the posts seem to still be around.

It makes no sense

It never ceases to amaze me how cynical people can be.

We have no real information, and so everyone assumes that they did it without a good reason. Myself I'm going to assume they had a very good reason for doing so, and even a reason they can't or won't discuss.

It's completely possible that they didn't even have a choice in the matter, that someone like LFL and/or Disney told them they had to pull it or else. No sane person would give up something that makes as much money as the Star Wars games do for the sake of not stepping on some toes.

We're still alowed to make these threads, just in the main forum now. I don't see why everyone is thinking it's copyright or other legal reasons. They would be deleting threads instead of just moving them. Has anyone had their post deleted?

Really, there could be so many reasons.

Maybe a moderator got fired and they needed to cut down on the forums they had to look thru. Maybe they didn't like all the posts whining about the x-wing needing to be fixed and wanted to add a positive twist to the main forum. Maybe they noticed a number of users that quit posting and are trying to get people active again. Maybe they are trying to get more new players and thought adding these to the main forums would get the casual and new players excited so they buy more minis.

I though this might be a reason too. There's been a ton of negativity and repetition on the General Forum for the past few months, while the repaint posts are pretty much always positive. And the IA forums, while general doesn't have as much negativity it is kind of stagnant, and the painting forum seems to have the most activity.

Let's just assume this. :)

So they're eliminating the sub forum with the most activity in order to inject that activity into the stagnant forum that's overrun with people whining about turrets?

Sure. Makes as much sense as anything else.

Here we have the sour and stagnate public soup pot... how to sweeten the pot?

Toss in the very nice sweet roasted prime rib... yeah it is still sour... kinda.

:rolleyes::mellow::lol:

Asswholesomeness...

:D

My favorite sub-forum is gone. Washed away in the tide of general nonsense. Oh wherefore art though repaint threads!? How I miss thy delightful imagery and artistic pleasantry!

For realsies though, kind of bummed.

You ain't alone...

Maybe some admin deleted it by accident and they just don't want to admit it. So they rather have us all paranoid rather than laughing at them...
