When I first put together my tickets for Gen Con, it said only generics would be taken for the In Flight report. Now it looks like that changed and it is sold out? Am I seeing this right? What the hell FFG? Can you organize and plan any event without making a mess out of it?
Gen Con In Flight Report...WTH?
..?
The In Flight Report is their report on how their company is going.

Yes, and I wanted to go. I wasn't asking what the event was.
Early in Gen Con registration, the event said it could be attended only with Generic tickets at Gen Con. This means there are no reserved spots. First come, first serve.
At some point, it appears this was changed to a reserved event allowing people to buy a specific event ticket saving them a spot rather than first come, first serve. I went to put the location in my calendar, and when I looked it up, the event had changed. And it is sold out.
Oh. It sounded like you thought the In Flight Report was the US National and that it only allowed generic pilots.

Ha! Now that would be...something. Probably a very dull something, but something nonetheless.

In-Flight Report was handled exactly the same way this year as last year and the year before that.
Wow. I just walked in and got a seat in the back row last year. Maybe you could do the same?
The In-Flight Report is a seminar. Seminars don't cost tickets.
Seminars CAN have tickets for reserved seating, even if they cost $0. I know this because sitting in front of me at this very second, is a ticket for a seminar.
My memory distinctly recalls the event saying it was "generic ticket only" initially. I remember it striking me as weird, because generics cost money. Memories are malleable and fallible, though, so who knows.
So I hope it is just "whoever shows up". But it is weird that the event no longer states the "generic ticket" tag, and it also shows as sold out, when numerous other seminars do not. Either it is "whoever shows up" and paper tickets were not issued, or it is just like the numerous other seminars with paper tickets and it actually is sold out.
Email FFG and ask them.

They did issue tickets, 'cause I have some.

FFG, the company I am waaaaaaay more interested in than any other, has managed to botch every event of theirs I would attend in some fashion or another.
Edited by GiraffeandZebraNon-news related people actually attend the seminar? Do they give out special swag or something?
Honestly I just wait for Team Covenant to spoil it all for me on twitter or in their interviews. Lets me play more games at a gaming Con =).
On a related note - thanks TC for helping me play more and sleep through fewer meetings!
So many curse words.

By people like us who attend, not by FFG. It's kinda important to get some folks in there.
Still want to complain about people who are interested in attending?

You are correct, it was initially generic only when the schedule went up, but had changed to tickets by the time (well before) events went on sale.
If it helps you can have my ticket if I make the cut since they are on at the same time pretty much.
Sounds like a Gencon snafu.
I am looking at the Excel sheet that was released before general registration had opened. Under the "Attendee Registration" section it says, "No, this is a generic ticket-only event." When I had tried to add it to my cart for preregistration it would not let me get the tickets, but I cannot remember the message. It always had a 400 attendee limit. I had planned to get into line and try to get in on the actual day.
Later in May or June I was browsing the tickets and there were 2 available. I grabbed them for my wife and I and was able to register bringing it down to 0 available. A week or so after that another was returned and my buddy was able to register.
So, originally it would not let me register to attend but at some point the tickets became available for preregistration.
Shouldn't you have been paying closer attention to the event developments, maybe checking in more often?
Geez, thanks for being so sympathetic everyone. It is about an experience, people. By virtue of these arguments, nobody should go to a concert, a ball game, a movie or an art museum. Just sit at home eating Cheetos and look at it on the internet. Heck, maybe I should just avoid the convention altogether. Surely any games will be for sale online eventually, and I can just play on vassal. So many curse words. They did issue tickets, 'cause I have some.Seminars CAN have tickets for reserved seating, even if they cost $0. Good call mate.
People are so lazy these days they forget what it's like to attend an event like this
Shouldn't you have been paying closer attention to the event developments, maybe checking in more often?
The thing is, there is just really no reason typically to expect an event to flip like this. Sure, if it was the norm, I would agree with you. But the flip is unusual, and selling of reserved seats is (as I understand it) different from prior years, so there was really no warning or indication that it would change and maybe you should check it occasionally. Add in that there is no notification or subscription system to alert you of changes to the event in the Gen Con system, and total silence and no warning from FFG that things were changing and there you have it.

Finding events for Gencon is a bit of a needle in a haystack unless you know exactly what you are looking for (at least it was for me being my first time). I just kept using FFG as a search term and would scan through various options. That was how I saw they switched it to a ticketed event.
On the bright side I can't see you not being able to get in. Sure 400 people got tickets, but it is free event, so many of them will just skip it anyway since the response cost is negligible. Also they will be a many people playing in championships rounds that will likely clash with the inflight report. I really don't think you will miss out.
I think one of the worst errors in FFG's listing I saw was there was different dates on the search page than the event listing itself for the SWTCG events. I thought I would be able to play and get the promo for my brother, because they listed it as a different day. However, both are on the Thursday, so I can't do that. But if anyone wants to trade an X-wing promo for an LCG one I would be eternally grateful.
When is the "In Flight Report?" Is that the cool event where they announce the next Wave, etc?
