Armada Playmat Design

By ungentlemanly, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi all,

I wanted to share this with anyone that wants it. I have designed an Armada board. It is a 6" x 4" board with a marked 6" x 3" play area. The turn sequence is in the right hand corner with some faction relevant artwork in the bottom left corner.

I have use the Andromeda Galaxy for the image as it is the closest I have found to the background used at the end of The Empire Strikes Back when Luke and Leia are watching the Falcon depart for Tantooine and it looks magnificent.

It has been scaled at 3" x 2" and so can be sent directly to a printer for a 6" x 4" printout.

I am aware that the Nebulon B image and the Victory II image are copyrighted images from FFG but I am not asking for any money for this or trying to make any profit at all, I am merely sharing something for personal use. If I breach any copyright please remove this post and I apologise in advance.

Hmmmm now how to get this onto a felt mat.. .

Let me know if you figure it out....

I love the turn sequence idea.

@ungentlemanly, can you make a version without the copyright pictures?

Looks nice but I can't really play Rebels versus Rebels or Empire versus Empire on it. I'd look silly I did.

Its exelent!

How do you print it?

Wich material do you use?

6" x 4"? .... perhaps 6' x 4' would work better.

Go metric and it is 1800x1200. :D

Sorry metric system in the UK, I don't use feet and inches and hence the notation is unfamiliar to me. :D

Having no symbols would be better. Nice andromeda pic.

Looks good, but you still need to measure the 1ft on each side during setup.

Also I don't get the worry over the copyrighted images. I mean you still left the LFL designs for the faction symbols. However I do think that it looks cleaner w/o them.

We are having the same discuss in our grup...

Its a bit longuer, almost 182.88 x 121.92....

ah, you crazy non-Americans with your logical standardized measurement systems. Measurements (especially the scientific kind) should be confusing and non-standard!

Custom pool felt, buy its expensive

I'm currently debating what kind of surface to build my table with. I'd love to mark the surface so you don't have to do it every time you start up the game, but I'm not finding much on the way of painting felt or even neoprene.

I'm thinking ultimately it'll be 3 interlocking peices at 5x2 most likely 3\4" thick particle board. But it'd be awesome to get a background like that on there.

I have found if you use any thing but felt the ships slide all over when you bump them or the table. so I pulled out a old space gaming mat made of 2 yards of black felt and painted it using an old tooth brush and a stick to flick the paint on and smuge it around to make nebs and clusters

I have a playmate from. BGG being printed on a 42" x 2 Yard piece of fabric for $34. Play around with the saved orientation and center it with no pattern repeats. When it arrives I will post.

Thanks for the killer design, ungentlemanly!

Question: does anyone here know an EU-based printing company that prints on felt (+ neoprene?). Cheers.

It's always the catch. Without markings, then you can play larger games using larger mats. But you have to measure out the deployment zones each game. But on the other hand, you also don't have permanently marked deployment zones making your space battle look ugly!

So my table is 3mm short in length and 2mm short in width?

It's amazing then that you US folks can even remain flying on the board we make:

"Oh look there is that Yank Fella, he runs Rebels."

"Yeah, he always flies his AF off the table turn three, just by 2mm too. Every game."

Ungentlemanly, I would like to thank you for designing this playmat, I just printed it on adhesive vinyl and mounted it on gatorfoam and it looks great! It does not have the felt grip to it but it is still very playable!

Thanks a lot :)
