Dice sharing competitively

By Ayleron, in X-Wing

You might want to phrase the request in a way that explains why you want to share. Without explanation, the request may imply that you want to use their dice because you somehow believe that they have manipulated their dice to gain an unfair advantage. In other words, they may interpret it as you calling them a cheater, whether you intended it or not.

Personally I would rather not share a single set of anything just because the X-wing play space is pretty big (and the tables at game stores are often even bigger) which makes passing things across the table kind of a pain

i like having my own stuff because it's easier. Sharing dice end up with dice everywhere.

That being said. I have no problem if that's what my opponent asks. If they don't have enough dice I've loaned out dice for the game if the person only has the core dice.

If you'd forgotten your dice or didn't have enough for whatever reason I'd be more than happy to share my dice.

However if you said you wanted to use mine because "it's the only way to be truly even" (and I knew you weren't joking), I'd immediately concede the game before it started. It would mean either you were implying that I might be cheating in some way or that winning what's supposed to be a fun game of cool plastic spaceships means far more to you than I can comprehend. Either way I'd have no interest in playing with you.

Personally, I wouldnt concede but just assume my opponent would be starting 7th grade in the fall, (Not that being in middle school is a negative, but you would probably be very young).

So I have begun seriously considering not using my own dice in the next tournament I enter. It's the only way to be sure things are truly even. If your opponent told you they wanted to use the same set, that being your set, of dice during the games would you have a problem with that?

Is this because you think your opponents are cheats, or because you think there's a significant difference in how the dice roll?

While cheats exist in every game they are the minority you shouldn't go in expecting everyone to try and screw you over.

It's not quite because of cheating I just have seen spme statistical anomalies in my local meta cause alot of grief. I have come to believe that some ffg dice really do roll better, no outside manipulation required. So I would rather win, or lose, on an even field.

Given the nature of manufacturing that's likely, in fact it's kind of a given. Some dice will have imperfections in them, that effect how they roll.

So while I can understand what you're saying. You're free to ask but it doesn't really mean anything if the other person refuses. There's plenty of reasons other then cheating for them to do so.

Also as I pointed out, technically you have to bring at least 3 attack and 3 defense dice to a tournament. If you showed up with out any dice the TO could disqualify you for the day, since you don't have the required components to play the game.

I though the only way to be sure was to nuke the site from orbit.

I've played in 'other games' like 40K tournaments where part of your fee for entering an event included brand new dice and all players were required to used these dice for the event. This eliminated the possibilities for any dice 'doctoring' and ensured that everyone had all the same dice and the same chances on their dice rolls.

Now, that is a little more difficult with X-Wing as their dice are proprietary and there as no 'inexpensive' options for X-Wing dice. But I think that this is something we could look into as the game grows and events are getting bigger and bigger.

Honestly the speed of rounds is a bigger concern to me in a tournament setting. I'm not crazy about the idea of sharing if that slows things down. If at all possible I don't want my games going to time and sharing things seems like it would slow the game down. Granted it shouldn't slow things down much but I wouldn't want to mess with it any way.
