By WWPDSteven, in Star Wars: Armada

At long last, the ol' Star Destroyer puts into port, as they say.

Intensify Forward Firepower, Episode VIII: Assaulting Frigates starts off as usual with a quick review of what Easy, Steve, Dan, and Judson have been up to lately, as well as what's been going on in the rest of the Armada-verse. The fantastic products from Space Rocks ( http://www.space-rocks.net/ ) are reviewed and some other interesting attractions from around the internet are mentioned. Before long, the crew of the FSD are fighting their way through a bit of a look-back into what stood out in Wave 1, and no talk of Wave 1 would be complete without some guesswork regarding what is to come in Wave 2. Tune in for another episode of Intensify Forward Firepower!

Cool. Now I have something to put on my iPod during my 7 mile walk tomorrow. I can try to lose weight and be entertained.

Awesome! By the way, I re-uploaded the file- had to edit the intro music slightly :)

This is most glorious news.

Glorious, even!

I feel so loved!

The station issue got me wondering, maybe they are ferrying supplies out and their Droids are just slapping hull plates over holes, fixing cracked thrusters, etc.

Remember that squadrons are just that so maybe they are getting reinforcements.

I still say going first is amazing. I love the power of declaring what and how things will occur

For squadrons something like a well known base location could be acting as a rally point for scattered fighters allowing them to regroup. As for ships I still can't find an explanation that has decent verisimilitude.

Just to be crystal clear it's not like I meant anything extra negative about the station. It's fine - just a mechanic - and only bothers me when I stop to think about it. Certainly, this isn't something that affects game enjoyment.

I'm listening to your podcasts while I paint, it seems only fair that I show you the results.

Great results, chilligan, and I see it as only fair that you send me your painted Y-wangs as reward for inspiring you to such fine work.

... Is that a freudian Slip I see there? :)

I am not in posession of any letter-coded wang. Am I free to go?

Great to hear another IFF podcast, by the end I'm always left wanting more!! I totally agree with the station talk, I was really hoping it wouldn't be used in tournament gameplay, but oh well. I'm sad to hear the Neb-B love seems to be completely gone. I'm still loving the dice-cost ratio. Same dice and cheaper than a MK II at long range, Salvation just makes it nuts!! My 3 Neb 1 CR90 fleet has tabled the last 3 Imperial fleets it came against...Those fleets were two 2 VSD 1GSD lists and a 2 VSD list with Rhymer. I'm still testing it out, but it seems to have promise!

Also, you sold me on picking up my own set of space rocks! (I failed my willpower check).

Space Rocks are almost mandatory if you have the funds.

Nebulon-B's are good, they can't really die to a single arc Demolisher (watch my B-Wing video in Armada Tactics News) so they have survivability to a degree, they just are flimsy. . .

Great podcast. Keep 'em coming.

By way of feedback, you have at least 2 outstanding promises* to fulfill:

1. Discussion of obstacle placement.

2. Squadron discussions? I know you've gone away from squadrons altogether, but maybe a discussion on how to actually use the fighters if you were going to try. You've got time to play yet before Wave 2 and see how you could make each fighter work, if you wanted...

*hah...

The discussion this episode convinced me to place my order with Space Rocks last night.

Yup, Neb's are a lot more survivable than people give them credit for, with two brace they are hard to accuracy, and like you said it takes at least two Glad shots to the side to take them down. I had a Neb survive 2 volleys of fire from a close range VSD 1's front arc!! Given, one roll was near a whiff (2-3 damage), but those 3 shields on the front really help if you position right. I also managed to shift shields from the rear up to the front before the second volley, it was the VSD ram that killed me. Needless to say, I finished off that VSD with my other Nebs soon after.

If there was one thing I'd suggest to the guys it would be that someone starts to take squadrons a bit more seriously. Same in the battle reports, it would be good to have more squadron action featured. It is such a big dimension to the game, and some analysis of the Wave 1 fighter state of play would be great before Wave 2 arrives and changes it all again.

I cant agree more. I know most of the cast are not too keen on them (at least that is what it seems) but for Rebs I think squadrons (if played correctly) will make or break most Reb builds. I have tried most combinations (except a heavy Neb B fleet) and every time I find the Rebellion firepower lacking the punch I need to finish off Imps. When I have flown my 2 AFIIs with 3 Bwings, Luke, Wedge, and Dutch I have lost only one game in 10 matches but when I fly without squadrons or with a very small squadron list I am lucky if I win 50% of the time. Now part it is my play style I am sure and I am very good at positioning my squadrons but I would like to see you test a 400 point game with 100-133 points in squadrons on a Reb list to see what you think.

Nope! Please refer to episodes 1-8 where I definitely proofed it "wangs" whenever referring to squadrons. Actually if English is not your first language don't listen to it at all because I intentionally mispronounce almost everything and Dan unintentionally mispronounces everything.

Being Australian, I speak the Queen's English. Which is, of course, very different :D

Its more I don't have the ability to listen at the moment - 2 year old at the feet and all :D But its on my list when I get 30 minutes of naptime here and there...
