Look BKL, I would LOVE to believe the EU is canon, but IT ISN'T. The Star Wars story team (I forget what they're called) has said anything made before a certain date (with the exception of the movies and TWC) is no longer canon. The opinion of a former writer for the EU isn't official. I just looked at that search again and only found outdated information.

Look at Starwars.com, it has a databank of everything that's canon, and I don't see anything from the EU on it. If you want to continue believing the opinions of SW writers are more accurate then the FRIGGEN TEAM THAT MAKES SW, then be my guest.

Yes because when LFL made the change, they said that bits and pieces of the EU could and would be used in the new stories.

Just like Coruscant was made canon by George Lucas when he included it in the prequels. Up to that point the name of that plant was never mentioned in canon.

So just like then, bits and pieces of the EU will make it into canon, but that doesn't mean the story as a whole is canon.

What I meant was anything that hasn't been mentioned in a canon source. There's tons of stuff that comes from the EU that made it into canon sources: Aayla Secura, the 501st (actually that's from the fan club), Coruscant etc.

We already know that a fair amount of the Thrawn Trilogy is going to become non-canon, because Aftermath and a comic book is going to describe what happened post-endor. Events that from what we know so far will be quite different then the ones in that series.

So while Thrawn or Mara Jade may survive and become canon, much of what they did in those books won't.

Or with TFU the story it told about how the Rebel Alliance was formed will be wiped out, even if Starkiller himself isn't.

If the Nostril of Palpatine isn't mentioned at least once, the whole franchise needs to fold.

There's actually a filmed and edited and ready-to-be-inserted scene from Episode 3 that shows the formation of the Rebellion. It's on the DVD extras. The direction of the Rebels show, and some of the material surrounding it strongly suggests that _even this scene that Lucas filmed and edited and etc_ is not actually canon.

Which is too bad- it was a great Episode 3 subplot, and actually made a lot of sense of the rest of the movie.

Interestingly enough: It _is_ now canon that Darth Vader's apprentice helped form the Rebellion. That apprentice, of course, being Ahsoka Tano. So if you'd like to head canon her into Starkiller, you're more than welcome to.

Also: do remember that a lot of the people who are working on the new Star Wars books, comics, movies, etc are Star Wars fans in their mid 30s and older. They grew up with the stuff the same way that I did. If there's great material from the Expanded Universe, I'm positive they'll jump at the chance to play with it.

I'd go so far as to say that unless the Story Group has specifically forbade the existence of Mara Jade, we're likely to see her at some point. She's too cool and interesting a character to not reintroduce. And there's lots of entry points for her into the new canon.

Sadly, I don't think there are many good entry points for Thrawn. If he shows up, he's the smartest, most awesome dude in the room. To bring him into the new canon, you'd basically have to create an entire arc for his character, and show why he's not running the Empire in episode 7. I'd love a little throw away line in Rebels about him being randomly killed in some heroic accident- just so we will know that- yes he existed, and yes, there's a good reason for him not to be in these stories.

Or, tone him down so he isn't the god Zahn built him up to be after he wrote Heir to the Empire. He really wasn't that bad in his first appearence. But, then Zahn went fanboy with both Thrawn and Mara.

Honestly I think it was the EU author base in general who went fanboy with Thrawn. I see absolutely no reason to tie him to either the Ambush at Derra IV or the strategy of the initial Death Squadron campaign unless they were trying to establish that he was pretty much the only competent Pre-Endor GCW Imperial Admiral.

Yeah, well, Zahn had him pretend to be Jodo Kast. So, yeah....

I think it would be funny if they had Thrawn as a post credit scene, treating him like Thanos in the MCU, where he was waiting only for the perfect time to strike with the events of episode seven being the catalyst he was looking for. Granted I would prefer if Star Wars doesn't follow the Marvel route of using after credit scenes but it wouldn't be the first Disney film franchise to do it, I think Pirates would be the first in that regard. Though I think we will probably getting him in some book in the future probably running his little Imperial fief which will result in some battle with the Rebellion/New Republic.

I know some people may be happy just having him and Mara mentioned just getting killed off but I sorta feel it would just a cheap way to say "look they existed" kinda thing. I doubt we will see Mara and Luke get married or become a couple now seeing as the prequels set them up to be monks without a sense of fun. They could just go the route of her just becoming a smuggler, fringe Jedi or force sensitive. Especially seeing as Rebels is adding Jedi and force sensitive people left in right, begging to question just how effective order 66 was and that Luke was the last of the Jedi.

Plus with Rouge One seeming to be set before episode four where the death star plans are stolen I more or less expect we will see Kyle Katarn rather soon, regardless if he is different from his original EU counterpart.

The only MCU thing they are doing is the spinoffs. And those are not necessarily connected to the trilogy movies. And I doubt Kennedy or Abrams will add a post credit scene.

That said, the Vader comic has re-introduced the Grand General rank, so it stands to reason there are Grand Admirals. And I doubt they will have Grand Admirals without Thrawn. Where he will show up, no one knows.

Depends on if you buy into Obi-Wan's logic or not. If you do then Asoka wasn't Vader's apprentice, she was Anakin's but he was killed by Vader.

I actually tend to agree with this logic.

I can believe seeing Thrawn at some point (or atleast an embodyment of him or Pellaoen in some character), but from what I've heard, Lucas hated Jade, so I wouldn't be surprised (though I would be sad) if she didn't show up.

Lost Stars is listed as a Young Adult novel and the 3 Adventure books are listed as Junior Novels. Amazon has them rated as Lost Stars for ages 12-18 and the Adventure books as 10-14. Just throwing that all out there.

Also there's going to be 2 comic series from Marvel. Shattered Empires which starts in Sept, and one with C-3PO which won't be released until just before the movie comes out.
