Playing around with Bossk builds

By Schmarbs523, in X-Wing

What do You guys think about it:

Bossk (35)

Marksmanship (3)

EU (4)

Outlaw tech (2)

Title (6)

Slaver (29)

Tactic (2)

N'dru Suhlak (17)

Inertail Dampeners (1)

OR

Bobba (35)

Predator (3)

Bossk (35)

Marksmanship (3)

Tactic (2)

N'dru (17)

Interial dampeners (1)

OR

Bobba (39)

Predator(3)

Slaver (29)

Slaver (29)

You can make a 40 point slaver with 2 tacticians and an HLC and I think if you're going to use tacticians on your YV that's how you want to do it.

60 points gives you a lot more options than a big bossk with all his stuff would.

I cannot wait for Bossk! I like the look of this one for dishing out plenty of stress:

Bossk 35

Marksmanship 3

Tactician 2

Tactician 2

Gunner 4

Engine upgrade 4

Binayre Pirate x 4

99 points

Could toss in Inertial dampeners as well.

I'd try Predator here, for this reason: Bossk's ability is good, no doubt, and you took Marksmanship to ensure it triggers, but that jiggers with your action economy in such a way that will often be detrimental. Bossk will want to boost a lot. Swapping for Predator also gives you a better way to trigger Tacticians in conjunction with Gunner. You attack, you roll a hit and 2 blanks. Use Predator to miss on purpose, rerolling that hit. They take two stress, and Gunner triggers, allowing a second attack with hopefully more damage and two more stress tokens. Not a good strategy to use ALL the time, mind you, but if you make a bad attack roll, its statistically better to trigger gunner and roll again. Plus, here you'd deal 4 stress instead of 2!

Also, and I think someone said it already, but Gunner is 5 points, making this list 100.

Well tactician stacking just got nerfed hard so that's that.

Tactician + Gunner is still pretty cool, though.

With that 180 degree arc? Yes, yes it is.

I went ahead and gave Bossk a go last night on Vassal. The build I went with:

Bossk

- Determination

- Mangler Cannon

- Mercenary Co-Pilot

- Tactician

- Greedo

- Engine Upgrade

Teamed him with Sable's 88B build, who also took GlitterStims that I forgot to use.

Loading Bossk up like that was a mistake. He clocked in at 49 points, did three shields and a crit to Deathrain, gave a stress to Night Beast, and otherwise spent the match being chased down by everyone without getting a shot off. The area behind him where he cannot shoot is HUGE, and it doesn't take a whole lot for small ships to stay in there. His biggest contribution was simply tying Vader's attention long enough for 88B to get a bunch of shots off.

Merc Co-Pilot was killer 2-point upgrade, though. Probably better just going with that and leaving the Mangler on the shelf.

EDIT: And after seeing him in action: holy cow, Deathrain is the star of Wave 7. Those minefields were a massive pain in the neck.

How much experience do you have running shuttles? I used to run shuttles alot, atleast until I started running scum almost exclusively.

Yeah I am not thinking that this ship will be that good in this meta. The problem with ships that have auxiliary firing arcs means that it has firing arcs which means Whisper Soontir and even Corran Horn or any other Arc Dodger will just chew this ship apart along with the current boss of the gang IG-88B. Heck IG-88 B might just make Bossik sleep with the fishies just for thinking of trying to become the leader. We already know what he did to that snitch Boba Fet.

The answer to that question is the same as always: Tailor your ship to a role and unless it's capable of doing all the roles at the same time don't rely on it doing everything or is incredably duriable. (I always strongly disliked how the Falcon can automatically evade 1 damage, when it's price was meant to be calculated in it's 13 hit points)

Since it can't shoot all arcs and isn't especially durable, the maximun price range for a ship like this should be probably in the low 40's, spend more then that? Then chances are it may not earn it's points back. Bossk is a streight up DPS machine; shouldn't aim for anything else. Laz is a party multiplier (weakens ships green dice further) and the gentics is something you have a little more tinker room with to either be a heavy platform or a Stress Machine.

TBH it's nothing like a bros brothers ship. For me this ship is the kind that would fit in with a 3 ship list. Either being two heavys and Palob, One heavy and two starvipers or something to that effect.

I've been toying with Palob, Kavil, and various YV-666s.

It's kind of like the classic double-ace-and-a-shuttle build of Imperial fame... only with turrets as your aces. :P
