Painted 1/7000 corvettes and frigates from Shapeways

By JBar, in Star Wars: Armada

I personally love to have Armada to scale, so I used these Shapeway miniatures from Mel_Miniatures and tsalt.

Here are the painted CR90 corvettes and Nebulon B Frigates: Corvettes and Frigates

And here are the Shapeway links: Corvettes, Frigates, and ship trees

I'm exceptionally happy with the corvette detail. The frigates are a bit more grainey but you can't really tell once they are on the table.

That is pretty cool. I want them to make 1/7000 scale fighters too. Imagine painting those!

Considering they'd be about... 2-3mm long? It'd be like trying to paint a realistic astro droid ont he back of a current Armada X-Wing, down to the little glowy bit... :D

I am fascinated by those. They look amazing. I really want them now.

That's amazing.

I see you have multiple ships on a stand. Do you play them as one ship, or do you use 2 or 3 ships since they are modeled on the stand?

Out of interest, what do you plan to do for the Large ships? Still try to stay in scale, or use the FFG models?

I believe most folks use them as one ship, just with three models. Otherwise would mess up the whole balance of the game.

Yeah, it just didn't make sense for one corvette to be able to have that much firepower, so I used three, kind of like how the squadron ships are represented.

From the research I've done, the large ships should already be to scale, such as the VSD, ISD, and the Mon Cal cruiser (which has a variety of lengths in the movies).

small ship "squadrons" would've been an interesting take on nebs/corvs. I guess modeling restrictions took FFG a bit off scale

still, they look decently tiny as is, though the 1/7000 definitely makes the VSDs more impressive :P

VSD and ISD are definitely out odf scale from what we know so far. ISD model is about 50% bigger than VSD, making it about 250-300m too short (and correspondingly too narrow).

It's not as big a gap as the CR90 for example though.

Those look really impressive on the table top. Nice work on the painting.

They do look great. Very tempted to do this myself.

Were those printed in White Strong and Flexible or FUD?

The corvettes are FUD (perfect quality in my opinion) and the frigates are White Strong (a bit grainy but still good). Both materials seem strong enough to hold up, just be fragile with the thin body of the frigate. I have links to each of the models up above. The corvettes have a great price, 8 for $11. You could possibly have 8 corvettes (1 per base) if you don't buy the trees, or any combination of one, two, or three to a base. The frigates are sold individually.

Perfect, thanks. I'm glad you said WSF for the Frigates....that was going to be expensive otherwise :)

I'm definitely going to do multiple corvettes per base, it just works much better considering the stats IMO.
