All right, a while back someone posted their title crawls, I talked about how I did mine, and someone asked me to post them when I was finished. So here we go:
Star Wars: Rough Edges, Episode I
Episode I
FRONTIER SOULS
It is a time of civil unrest. The GALACTIC EMPIRE, wary of news about a growing Rebellion, has sent troops to the Outer Rim in order to control the people through fear.
Concerned that the greater Imperial presence will hamper profits, crime lords across the galaxy are in a panic. Acts of violence are on the rise, and innocents caught in the crossfire have nowhere to turn.
In this crisis, small groups of renegades and outlaws struggle to survive. These frontier souls stand to earn their fortunes or lose it all on the edge of the Empire...
This was my first shot at creating a crawl. I used Adobe AfterEffects and this tutorial. The colors and fonts came from this page on TFN.
Obviously, it's not perfect. The "Star Wars" logo shoots through too quick and the text rises too early. Also, I think the flying text fades too low on the screen. The middle paragraph also runs a bit too long, in my opinion. These are supposed to be snappy intros, not long-winded exposition dumps.
But as a first attempt, I felt this was the best I could do, so I tried not to get caught up in too many details and resolved to fix what I could in the next version.
Speaking of which...
Star Wars: Rough Edges, Episode II
Episode II
STORM IN A GLASS
Victory! Striking from their hidden base, the REBEL ALLIANCE has successfully destroyed the DEATH STAR, the Empire's secret weapon of terror.
Hurt, but not crippled by its loss, the Empire has recognized the Rebels as a serious threat. DARTH VADER now hunts them across the stars.
Meanwhile, on Bamaru, Imperial forces are scouring the world for any sign of Rebel activity. The people are scared and angry, while the crew of the VALKYRIE is forced to lie low and wait for their chance to escape...
For this one, I slowed down the opening title a bit and increased the space between the episode line and the proper title line, to make it look more like the movies.
My goals for the next one are to finally figure out how to get some little ships in there. I've got the pan down to the planet figured out, but, as seen in other videos, you can add spaceships flying in and out. That requires me to figure out Blender.
That's pretty much it. Feel free to ask me any questions; I'll answer to the best of my ability. Video editing really isn't my wheelhouse, but if I want to make something halfway worthwhile, I need to put the effort in.
