First Tournament squad

By wilsont, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey Everyone,

First time post and pretty new to the game. Have only played about 6 games so far. There is a tournament coming up at the Tampa ComicCon and a buddy and I are going to play in it and I trying to come up with a squad and have no clue where to start for a tournament list or what the meta is like in the Tampa Central Florida area. Here is a list of what I have to work with and any help would be appreciated. So thank you all in advance.

First off welcome! It seems like you took the "one of everything" approach so you have some good options available to you.

The list that jumps out to me from your models is the stereotypical SuperDash+Corran.

Dash Rendar - Enginue Upgrade, Push The Limit, Heavy Laser Cannon, Outrider Title, Kyle Katarn

Corran Horn - Veteran Instincts, Fire Control System, R2-D2

It is a very easy list to fly for a beginner, as Dash ignores terrain for movement and actions so you can be a little more sloppy with your flying and not get punished for it. Corran is a great end game closer and at skill 10 can deal with Phantoms and will be shooting before most opponents.

Yeah I tend to go off the deep end when I get involved with something and as soon as the wife is good with it I'll be around 2 of everything =)...

Thanks for the ideas on the list and I do like the idea of it being forgiving on flying it which would help until I get a more experience with maneuvers . I have been looking at a Dash build.

I have seen some Dash builds with a bwing and they used Nera Dantels and I changed it up a bit from what I saw and have the following on her Fire-Control System, Adv Proton Torpedoes, Flechette Torpedoes, Marksmanship, B-wing/E2, and Jan Ors. Does that seem like a good match up with Dash?

I don't like running a B-Wing with Dash because they are slow, he is stupid fast. I like the E-Wing because it can keep up with Dash and the threat from his "double tap" protects Dash when enemies get to range 1 (Dash's "bubble" where he can't shoot with the HLC)

That's very good to know. Thanks for that insight on that set up. Other than that how does that set up on a bwing sound, think it would be a good match up with something else?

Take out Marksmanship and Advanced Proton Torpedoes. Both are actively bad on her.

Consider how you will use her, and how you will use Dash.

More importantly, consider what fleets you will face, and how you'll fight against them.

Thanks, what makes Adv Pro Tor and Marksmanship bad on her???

Marksmanship is inefficient unless you are shooting twice per turn, a focus almost as good and saves you 3 points. Also like I said, B-Wings are slow and at Nera's PS you will have a hard time getting to range 1 to shoot off those ADV PTs.

Ah that makes sense. Amazing how many little things there are to think of and consider when putting a squad together and how to get everything play off of each other the best that it can. I appreciate all the info.

Advanced Proton Torpeodes are the most expensive piece of ordnance in the game, and are only above par if you have more than one action readied on the turn in which you can get them off, which is hard to predict without Push the Limit (which is bad on a B), and you've got the smallest effective zone for launch in the game... yeah, spend those 6 points elsewhere. For 1 more, you can get an HLC, for cryin' out loud.

Marksmanship is completely overshadowed by Focus, except when you rely on the higher chance of [{(KABLAM)}] results on your dice, or have multiple actions per turn. It's 3 points more expensive than the free option, requires the filling of a slot that could be used for other things, and cannot be used defensively.

Besides, with Jan Ors, you've already buffed your Focus Action, so it's even worse than usual. Go with Predator instead :)

Awesome info =) thanks. Trying to a grip on all the possibilities and what works well together and what is wasted or redundante because of something else is a lot....

Another option with Nera is to give her a Munitions Failsafe. Remember, Flechettes don't need to hit their target to stress them, so if your attack doesn't hit, you'll still have the torpedo to fire on the following turn.

Particularly useful as the ships that will get stressed by a Flechette in this metagame rely heavily on their damage mitigation (so you're likely to miss anyway), and rely heavily on their action economy to achieve that mitigation.

Y'know. Baron Fel, Corran Horn, IG-88, and so forth. It doesn't work against the Pancakes.

Thanks again for all the info and insight. Love the game and just trying to take it all in, guess like anything more you play and work with it the more you understand it
