3 players skirmish - any advice

By DarthButchbrune, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

We're a group of three players and would like to play a skirmish "battle royale" sort of game, so there isn't one of us waiting while the other two have fun.

First of all, we must design new maps with 3 deployments zones, but that's not too hard.

Any other advice on what should we change or adapt for this kind of game?

Perhaps design the objectives for one mission so that, if you control a certain objective, you either gain +1 Block and +1 Evade against attacks made by a certain player. Like maybe there would be 3 different objectives, that are somewhat close to the 3 different starting zones. Controlling the objective close to your starting zone doesn't give you an advantage.

I dunno, just brainstorming.

We used to have a three player rule for the old SWM game that could adapt to IA. If you attack one player, you could not attack the other until you defeat a character. It removed the gang up aspect (whether intentional or just based on board position) and added a level of strategy for attacks. Would need some refining, but something to think about.

I like this idea, combining it with a rule that state that a controlled objective give you 5 vp at the end of the round or if your objective is controlled (the one that give +1 Block and +1 Evade against you), you lose 3 VP at the end of the round, it could trigger a lot of action between all three players forcing everyone to take part in the action.

If you attack one player, you could not attack the other until you defeat a character.

You would need to give me more details, because if player A attack player C and player B also attack C, then A and B won't be able to attack each other until they both defeat a C unit, so C wouldn't have a chance to breath until 2 of his units would be kill. But if it was working for your gang, maybe we can try it to see where it leads us.

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions!

On our side, we were discussing the idea of drafting a random unit in each of the players deck and give 20 VP for the kill of this unit.

If there's any other idea, feel free.
