Above 400 points and it goes far down. At 500 points you have far more ships and a higher likely of chance ships being destroyed. This means that 15 points a token is a tiny drop in a bucket. It is no longer 3.5% of your points which sounds like a tiny portion but can be huge when trying to figure out the deferences in a win or loss

This is why the game is tested and optimized for 400 points.

Good luck with that. Objectives will be just as important and their hold on the game will diminish almost zilch.

I have scored 10 tokens in SupPos in a tourney, that's almost enough to get a 10-0 alone.

Honestly, I only see 400 pts helping to balance out lists to have more ship types. So now you'll be able to comfortable trade a corvette for a 150 point swing in points via objectives and te like. We'll see how much the MoV changes with 400...that'll be the biggest impact.

It's a nice article for new(er) players.

I didn't really get anything out of it, I've all but shelved the game until Wave 2 spoilers hit. There is ZERO point in practicing for worlds when you've already got 300 "figured out" and you know nothing about Wave 2.

I can almost guarantee that you don't have 300 pts "figured" out. I have dozens of games in at 300 pts and I don't have this game figured out. The game is never the same. Oh some tactics are the same, keep the neb's sides from the enemy, keep at high speeds with the CR90, but there are so many tactical exceptions in this game that they can't be mapped

. There is no "best list" but I've played enough games with and against the best lists plural that at this point it's simply an exercise in maneuvering and remembering what to do.

So what are they?

Mayyyyte: You are doing it wrong.

The thing is here, there is a relativity of that 15 point objective, but it isn’t a measurable factor of anything as concrete as the points total of the game, rather what percentage of the margin does it represent. If I just won by a 76 point margin a single objective at 15 points will have a considerable effect on the game results, taking the game from a 7/3 to an 8/2, and I think in 3 rounds 8-2 wins are key. You are going to need 24+ points to place well in a 3 round tournament.

At a margin of 91 points that 15 point objective is around 15% of my points if I manage to keep my opponents score down to zero. I suspect that a 10% margin gained from objectives may be typical of a good win, as I probably will lose ships, squadrons or mission points through the game.

If you are playing for ship kills, the question is, can you do it reliably every game? I don’t see this happening as you increase the points, rather I think the opposite happens, it becomes far more likely that some ships will get away and run off. Also, you will lose ships, so the margins are important.

As such I tend to think the importance of missions/objectives remains about consistent at 300/400 points. You have to work on killing stuff, not being killed and being aware of the mission.

Oh I know I this. I can't explain it very well currently

Well said Amanal.

Been there, done that and have the t-shirt.

Yea... I am there many times when I am distracted and tired

I was surprised at the bidding section. In my local group, many people bid to go second, not first (and often win as a result). This is something I do. I only consider going first if both of us are playing squadron heavy lists and I want to ensure that all-important first strike.

Also, most of our bids tend to be around 290-294 - 296 as mentioned in the article seems very high. I don't think I've ever seen anyone max out their points.

I usually win, when I go first. I am not saying I am a guru or anything because I lose often enough when testing out ideas (usually involves me going second).

I don't know, I really like going first.
