100 point matches? Am i being trolled by FFG??

Are people really playing 100 point matches?

I`m playing rebels and i`m fairly new. I`m having serious trouble fielding 3x ships with some upgrades. If I field 4 ships I find it almost impossible to fit upgrades at all.

The base ships i pick tend to be 22-25 points- including max upgrades on 1x ship and 2 upgrades on the other two- that takes me to 100.

I tried a build with 4 ships. 2x 19 points, 1x 22 and 1x 25- barely any space left for upgrades..

What games are most common? 100, 150, 200??

100 points are definitely the most common.

Basically you have a choice: fly more ships with few upgrades, or few ships with lots of upgrades. If you want four ships all decked out in upgrades, then you're going to be looking at some of the lower quality pilots.

100 points.

If you're picking 22-25 points ships you'll get four of them in the squadron with minimal upgrades to choose from. If you want to fly more ships you'll have to fly cheaper ships and likely do so without giving them upgrades. If you want to fly more expensive ships and/or include more upgrades then you will need to fly fewer ships. Currently there are a large number of squadrons being flown that only have two ships in them.

Unless you're running tournament lists, disregard the 100 limit. Casual games can be whatever you want.

I've been doing a lot of 200 and 300 games. I mostly play with my two cousins, and going with a higher point value lets us split one side between two people while still giving them enough points to make a fun list.

We occasionally go the other way, too, like 40 point lists for single-ship dogfights and whatnot.

TLDR - 100 points is tournament style, but casual games can have any point limit that you enjoy.

I've only ever done four matches that weren't one hundred point games (in three years of playing).

There's a definite trade-off in number of ships and number of upgrades. If you have more ships, you have more guns, which is flat-out better. That means that, if you want to field fewer ships, you need to outfit them as efficiently as possible to survive longer and hit harder to even out that disparity. Right now, a lot of people like to fly two-ship lists, with one big turret that can dodge arcs and soak up damage and one smaller, glass cannon ship that can pound your opponent while they're going after the big ship.

I`m playing rebels

That's your problem right there. :P

Join the Imperial Navy! Run 7 or 8 TIEs (or 6 if you want some upgrades).

This is what`s happening.

I`m running 3 ships and my mate who`s playing Empire is running 6 ships with upgrades and those things have great agility and can be a pain to hit.

He can afford to loose two ships without feeling like he`s loosing. If I loose a single ship then that`s 25-50% of my damage output depending on type and how it`s upgraded..

If i run 4 ships, then they`re so cheap and poorly upgraded that 6-7 ties will steamroll them.. Rebels have alot of enticing stuff, but it`s hard to get on the table. Empire has alot of really cost effective swarm builds...

Swarms are the Shark build of X-Wing.

That is to say, they're really effective, and don't really need to evolve as the eons go by.

They're the oldest of the top-tier archetypes.

I wouldn't consider Corran, Soontir, or Whisper to be glass cannons. They kind of always sit behind a pile of tokens, they're all quite good defensively.

I have:

Rebel Aces

Millenium Falcon - not used it yet

X-Wing - from core set

I`ve played games With the A/B/X-Wing.

I`m not playing the Falcon. Feels like really poor point vs performance at the base lvl and when i look at the deck Builder it seems you`ll hit 55-50 Points when kitting it up and my impression is you get more from B and Y wings..

so...

Yesterday i bought 3 New expansions

B-Wing

Y-Wing

X-Wing - really wanted an A wing, but the store was out of those.

Reckon i`ll pick up the A-Wing and Most Wanted expansions in a week or so. This will give me options, but obviously my friend is gearing up as well and I Guess i`m just wondering what People are doing to Counter the TIE swarms...

I`m working on the following builds:

ABY

ABA

AYA

I probably won`t be using the Falcon until we start playing bigger games or custom campaings..

The Falcon is a great ship. Lots of threads on the main forum complaining about the Falcon and other turreted ships.

If you haven't already done so, check out MajorJuggler's new player list guide. It will help you build a list to compete with the swarm. It lays out the basic list types for each faction. I'm sure you can find a competitive build that uses the ships you have.
