need adventure ideas: PCs need a spaarti cloning cylinder

By EliasWindrider, in Game Masters

ok

My PCs had unknowingly interfered with the plans of Emil Mola. Emil Mola is space Keyser Soze from "The Usual Suspects", what the galaxy knows about him was that he was a minor human crime lord that Jabba fed to the Sarlac 204 years ago, yet his organization continues to thrive while apparently still under his direction, ala "In his belly you will find a new definition of pain and suffering as you are slowly digested over the next thousand years." Anyway Emil Mola wants to make a return to the galaxy, rather than continuing to run his organization from tatooine (via electronic communication over the holonet). To this end (cloning a new body for him) he had his right hand man Baron Aalto Endel (space Mr. Kobayashi from "the Usual Suspects") hire a cyber samurai/ space ninja (memetic suit), steal a "Blood Oath Dagger" (that Mr. Mola had used to seal a pact with another gangster maybe 220 years ago) from Crev Bombaasa's collection. Anyway the PCs interfered with that theft and by doing so they incurred a debt to Mr. Mola.

If they had knowingly stolen from Mr. Mola, they'd just be dead, but since. they only unknowingly stolen from Mr. Mola they're being given an opportunity to work off that debt. (This is what one of my PC's requested for his obligation/side story, and only 2 of the 6 sometimes 7 PCs incurred the debt, but they are all helping to get there friends out of the jam).

So far the PCs have completed 2 tasks:

1) getting the dagger from crev bombaasa (he owed them a favor so he just gave it to them after they asked him nicely for it)

2) getting a live ysalamir (force repelling lizards from Myrkr, as in the Zahn trilogy which was EU and is now legends)

the next task is for them to get a spaarti cloning cylinder http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Spaarti_cloning_cylinder, and I need ideas on how to set up that adventure, ideally they would think it's just a "special bacta tank."

now I'm thinking of having them either hijacking a ship transporting these "special bacta tanks" from wayland to byss or having to raid mount tantiss on wayland and tangle with Joruus Cobath (with help from the ysalamir in a nutrient cage), or they get one from another surviving batch of them somewhere (ideas please), or maybe they don't get a name brand "spaarti" cylinder but instead going to Khomm (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Khomm) to get a cylinder from that planet.

so if you could throw out some ideas about what you think would make for a good adventure we could have a little bit of a back and forth discussion. My next session will be in August so I have some time to prep.

Now what was the name of that world where they created and grew those clone troopers?

Kamino wasn't it?

Nothing like going to the source for that spare cloning chamber...

Hmm... what did happen to Kamino following the Clone Wars?

Might want to come up with something suitable maybe reveal it was on the receiving end of a BDZ and your players are now hunting down possible hiding places for the Kaminoans or their tech.

Come to think about it, what if there's a hidden lab or a sunken fortress that escaped destruction so you now need some kind of submersible to explore the depths of Kamino to locate a possible waystation holding the spare parts you'd need to construct a Spaarti cloning cylinder?

Could always hunt down that rogue unit of clone troopers said to have been cured of the fast aging effects but that's if you want to plum the depths of a series of Karen Traviss novels of course... ;)

The Kaminoans by the way didn't seem to have those critters from Wayland so maybe your PCs don't need them either!

On mobile, ao a short answer.

Kidnap a scientist, force him to build it.

The Kamino cloning took like 10 or so years, the spaarti cloning took about a year (to avoid madness without a ysalamir) or about a month with a ysalamir. Different tech.

Well you can risk a process they have no idea will work or one that does work albeit would a blood sample off that dagger be enough or will they need something more for a better chance of growing a clone?

My view is take that remark about kidnapping a scientist to build it for you and change that to make a group of Kaminoans create a clone for you in return for a new life out of the grip of the Empire.

Now that's an adventure worth exploring after all you need to find someone whose an expert on this, how are they going to recognise a sparti cloning cylinder without someone familiar with the tech which they aren't.

Could throw in a scientist who wants to save their own child so they have a personal reason to want to get involved, but be careful because the Empire will be on the lookout for both that tech and any surviving Kaminoans to add to Palpatine's personal corps....

I've been meaning to post here since you first asked your question and have had limited availability to get on. I wrote and ran an adventure a while back that ended up with the group discovering an abandoned secret Cloning base left over from the end of the cold war. Ill provide a basic outline but you may be able to cannibalize some of the parts. I never polished up the campaign but i did run my group through it. (it worked quite well) and would be willing to give you what notes i have if you are interested (just send me a PM). Ive provided a brief synopsis below so you can get the basic gist.

The group was hired by an archaeologist to help him investigate an ancient debris field left over from the clone wars. This debris field was unique because there were no official records of a battle taking place in the system. The wreckage should not exist. All attempts to find out about the battle from official sources come up short. The Archaeologist wishes to fill in the missing history with details about the battle.

Local legends say that the battle was fought towards the end of the clone wars and that the clones were initially loosing. A new secret weapon was deployed to assist them turning the tide of the battle.

After looking through the wreckage and putting together several clues the group was able to find out two ships had arrived late to the fighting and had helped to turn around the battle. Sensor longs form various ships help provide them with a direction from which they appeared. Communication logs indicate when the ships were requested allowing for calculations to be made on how far they jumped and from which direction they came.

Following various clues the group went to a different sector and began to investigate a radioactive nebula. Inside of that nebula was a large asteroid that contained a secret base. The second capital ship that joined the battle was docked (though obviously damaged at a docking area inside of the asteroid). investigating the asteroid they discover that it was an experimental cloning facility. developing force sensitive clones (The secret weapon). Power is down through most of the station (shielding was damaged by the returning ship and radiation killed everyone). Power has been maintained in the cloning lab where a jedi is frozen (if they find and wake him he has no idea that the Jedi order doesn't exist anymore, though he was assigned by chancellor palpatine on a secret assignment unknown to the council). Bringing main power back on activates all of the defence systems.

I also had a training area for the clones placed on the upper levels where the lab was. They had to pass the training course before they could get access to that area. (the course used various iterations of battle droids beginning at B-1 and ending up with multiple droidekas (all outfitted with stun weapons ;).

Oh their employer was working for the rebellion (trying to locate the weapon )

Oh everyone died at the station before order 66 and the emperor simply assumed it was destroyed when communications were lost and no one ever returned

The point of this is the characters (vs. players who may figure it out) don't know that Emil Mola's goal is to clone him a new body. The PCs are being given 1 task at a time and aren't being told the reason behind the tasks. One maybe two of my players have read the Zahn books maybe a decade ago so it's not fresh in their minds and the characters have no knowledge of the ysalamir anti force bubble or a spaarti cloning cylinder. The closest thing in their experience is a bacta tank, and they're being told this is a "special bacta tank"
