X-Wing Dice Result Terminology

By Darth Ruin, in X-Wing

Most highly developed games of chance have a wide vocabulary of slang terms for results (Poker, Blackjack, Craps, etc.) X-Wing I think we should come up with some slang terms for Dice Results.

A sampling, open to ideas!

Failures:

Three or more blanks on 3 Evade Dice: Wash

Three or more blanks on 3 Evade Dice with rerolls and token: Hole

Four or more blanks on 4 Evade Dice: Gutter

Three or more blanks on 3 Attack Dice: Chasm

Three or more blanks on 3 Attack Dice with rerolls and token: 'MEDIOCRE'

Successes

Three or more crits on X number of Attack Dice: Joy

'I thought I was dead but I rolled a joy for two direct hits and a blinded pilot...'

Three natural hits on 3 dice: Triplet

Two natural hits on 2 dice: Barrel

Actions:

Taking two focus and a Evade on Soontir: Fortressing

Taking the second shot with Corran's ability: Double-Tap (already in widespread use)

Landing on an asteroid: Docking

'As soon as I placed my dial I knew I'd docked on the large asteroid...'

Landing on an asteroid and rolling a hit: Spinning Dock

Landing on an asteroid by millimetres: Come on TARS!

Missing an asteroid by millimetres: Rockstarring

Landing on a debris field and rolling a crit: Lucking out

Setup:

One Asteroid in each corner of the map: Spread

Triple obstacles clustered in a corner: Bermuda

'He tried to trick me into following through the Bermuda but I disengaged...'

Come up with your own!

Good idea but I won't rememember the terms, eyeballs & blanks for me it is

You rolled 0 evades -> you Chirpied.

Uhhh...... No....

If I roll all blanks, it's called: son of a ...; ha!; ****; or whatever

If my opponent rolls all blanks it's called: ouch, sorry.

If my opponent rolls all hits or crits it's called: rigged dice!; inconceivable; and/or ouch!

If I roll all hits or crits or evades it's called: <evil laugh> sorry.

Uhhh...... No....

But we all agree getting friends to go to gencon and buy you toys is pulling a one-way.

Haha... but of course my friend.. hahaha

He was going anyway, and... well... it never hurts to ask.. hahaha

Some people have enough problems when you start using [boom] and [kaboom] to describe dice results instead of terms that have additional meanings beyond dice results.

How about lets just all call it #$@#%@#$%& DICE!!!!

Taking two focus and a Evade on Soontir: Fortressing

We have started calling this Super Saiyan in our Batreps

All blanks, or tokenless Focus: Nothing.

Everything else, it varies, so adjust to taste.

I usually use:

Urrgh = all blanks

Errm = some blanks, some pictures, quiet I have to think

Yeaah = all splosions

I also do a little dance when I have to get a fifth die out of my box.

Some of these are the most antithematic things I've ever seen. As for this one:

Taking two focus and a Evade on Soontir: Fortressing

Already has a very different meaning, and a very derogatory meaning.

Yes, we usually use "turtling" (which also has a very different and very derogatory meaning).

I like "Rockstar" for the miss a rock by 1 mm or less and "Bermuda" for a triangle setup of obstacles.

I roll 2 crits and 1 hit enough after a reroll that it is a thing for me. I'm going to call it "blitzed".

But not one specific to X-Wing.

I like the 'Rockstarring'. Seems I've mastered that quite well.

I'll submit my suggested slang,

Dice results:

Eyes Wide Open = All focus results

Blind roll = all blanks

Loaded bases = 3 hits

Grand slam = 3 hits and a crit

Middle Finger = A perfect evade roll cancelling out a perfect attack roll. The gesture at least is exchanged mutually across the table with who I play with usually.

Non-Dice related slang:

Flippy = any K-turn

E-brake = Full Stop on the Pale Void Cetacean or using Inertial Dampeners

The Baron Bounce = Hard 1 or 2 turn followed by Boost and Barrel Roll or vice versa.

Rush Hour = those couple turns when two swarms are so intermingled every ship bumps and nobody moves.

"HWA! That got 'em!" = whenever Wedge one shots anything.

One of the things about slang is that it tends to evolve naturally, rather than be specifically designed...

Cyclopsing. One eye ball on a 1 evade die roll. Makes you have to decide if you want to spend it now, or risk an attack that may or may not roll a focus result.

Can I call the TD over if my opponent uses the wrong roll terminology?

4+ blank greens = a fickle fistful

Opponent rolling 3+ evades without modifiers = a "come the **** on!"

Rolling all natural hits or critical vs a big ship with Rexler Brath, while holding a focus token:

"All the way through"

Forgot the perfect evades into gunner into perfect blanks

Aka "just another one of those days"

Rolling all hits with no rerolls or modification = a Natural

If I roll all blanks, it's called: son of a ...; ha!; ****; or whatever

If my opponent rolls all blanks it's called: ouch, sorry.

If my opponent rolls all hits or crits it's called: rigged dice!; inconceivable; and/or ouch!

If I roll all hits or crits or evades it's called: <evil laugh> sorry.
