Rebellion Ships in Armada

By X Wing Nut, in Star Wars: Armada

To me I see this game as one of my favourite video games come to life Star Wars Rebellion. Like in Rebellion I mostly play rebels and had many fun times building fleets and freeing the galaxy from oppression. one of the best things about the game was the variety of ships you could put into a fleet and I know the variety of ships for this game is only going to grow. much to my wife's disappointment. If I had a choice of what to add to this game, below is a list of ships from the game I would really love to see.

Dreadnaught Class Heavy Cruiser

An oldie but a goodie I would love this to be a tough work horse with a similar cost to a Neb but more shields and fire power on the sides but not as fast and only hold 1 Squadron of fighters like in the game. In the game this ship was able to be added both Rebel and Imperil fleets and I think a cross faction ship would be cool

Assault Frigate Mark I

A Ship with strong shields but week hull no fighter capacity but lots of fire power but mostly at short range (black dice only maybe) it was also a fast ship. If this ship ever made it into the game I would like it to be a capital ship killer maybe no anti fighter dice to make it a bit different from a Neb

Corellian Gunship DP20 Frigate

Much like the Corvette in speed but much more in firepower. This ship was good against big ships but was mostly used against fighters. If there are 2 types of this ship like all ships I would like one of them to be strong against fighters or maybe a title that lets Crits count when shooting at squadrons? this ship also had no fighter capacity

Liberator Cruiser

More fire power out the sides then the front and rear looks a little different (not like a fish :P) but what this ship did have was a squadron capacity of 6 and that's something that I think would make squadrons a lot more fun and deadly

Dauntless-Class Heavy Cruiser

A more powerful Mon Cal cost more but came with more weapons and speed. I like t but it could replace the Mon Cal witch would not be good

Bulwark Mark III

The biggest fish in the galaxy lots of hull and lots, of shields, a hell of a lot of firepower and 10 squadrons. In the game this was the rebels Super Star Destroyer so I don't expect to see this bad fish in the game until they add the SSD

Neutron Star-class Bulk Cruiser

I hated this ship it was week, slow, no fighter capacity and cost more then a Corvette. Please FFG don't use this ship

what do you think of mu choices? and did you ever play the game?

Some of these you could get custom from Mel. Though you would need to paint em. And They don't have stat cards.

I'm just waiting for the Acclamators and Venators to drop, though I'd LOVE to see the old Dreadnaughts being fielded.

I'd also love to see dual allegiance cards for some ships.

For instance, the Nebulon B is an Imperial design originally, and most of the Rebel Neb Bs would have been captured from Imperial patrols. Only seems appropriate to see them on both sides of the line as the Rebs get a more rounded fleet.

love the Bulwark mk3, and dauntless class... the other not so much

Of course they have stat cards. Its not like I am doing nothing all day lol.

I Like the shape of the bulwark mark 3 but that's all it really is; a shape. It needs more details (windows paneling etc) to establish that its a 2500 meter ship, as is it doesn't look very big.

The liberator suffers from the same problem, there's nothing on it to give it a sense of scale so it looks really small for a ship that apparently has 240 (what!?!) turbolasers.

Again you could actually get both of those ships from Mel. https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/182117-custom-3d-printed-ships/page-1Just not official stuff.

I also loved rebellion... great thing is, it still works on windows 7.

I have it installed and play it a couple times a year (couple times being a few games over the course of a few days)... I just wish the AI was better!

How is this game? I never played it but really enjoyed Empire at War and am wondering how well they compare to one another.

Trying to get it to work on windows 8.1 so far no luck

Have you ever seen the sabotage death star clip after all these years I only found out about it 2 months ago

Sorry never played Empire at war. Rebellion is a simple game but alot of fun

I have seen the sabotage clip... good stuff!

As for the difference between empire at war, I think rebellion is a better overall game as you get to build up your resources as well as have direct control over sabotage. It also allows for characters to be leveled up which makes them better at certain missions on top of the standard fleet/land combat system. The graphics are clearly dated though.

As for trying rebellion on 8.1, have you tried running it in windows xp mode?

Yeah I love Rebellion. My second copy went MIA a few years ago so Rebellion was literally the first game I ever downloaded off GOG.com. I love the new ships from it especially the CC-7700, CC-9600, and Dauntless. I always thought it was weird that the one of the key philosophies of the rebellion was that all species should have equal rights but their primary heavy capital ship had its controls and displays set up so only members of a specific species could use them to their full effectiveness. I'm hoping that since the CC-7700 Interdictor Frigate has been made part of the new canon maybe some of the others will as well and that FFG will become the first Star Wars gaming company to include the ships introduced in Rebellion in its products

Rebellion is IMO much better on the strategic scale but much worse on the tactical scale. You basically have full control over what missions whatever hero characters you have are running though only certain characters are good at certain missions (You start with only a few from your faction's list and others have to be recruited.) Missions include recruiting other heroes, various diplomatic activities such as gaining support and inciting uprisings on enemy controlled worlds, sabotaging enemy forces, and research to learn how to create new ships, ground regiments, and structures. You can literally send your ships anywhere in the galaxy you want from the beginning even hopping across enemy controlled regions though travel between sectors takes a while. Tactically you have no control over ground battles at all and while you have some control over space battles your control isn't nearly as detailed as it is in Empire at War.

Find (or create) a Shortcut for it.

Properties -> Compatability -> Run in XP mode (and probably in 256 colours, and disable visual themes just in case, too)

That's all I've got there, and I apologise.

The only thing I remember from Rebellion is not understanding how to catch and destroy the rebel HQ. I would conquer or destroy a planet and it would escape. Every time. So I built the death star and proceeded to systematically destroy every single planet in the galaxy that didn't have at least 12 imperial regiments garrisoned.

Yeah, Rebellion had a lot of promise, but it just wasn't polished enough. It was like a bad clone of Master of Orion.

Empire at War was also very disappointing. I mean, why the heck does te empire get their fighters for free, but the rebellion has to build them? Damage was removed from ships at the end of the battle (so much for strike and fade)... Micromanagement, everyone's favourite!

A much, much better game than either is the mod Sins of a Galactic Empire. Now that is an awesome game.

Sins of a Solar Empire was a great game, never played that particular mod though. Empire at War did have some of the most enjoyable RTS combat I've played in any such game. The way it handles reinforcements in both the space and ground combat felt very thematic as well as being quite fun. The way weapon and system hardpoints worked on capitol ships was interesting as well.

Though on the overall strategic level it was a bit abysmally simple.

Change compatibility settings manually

These steps will not work with programs that are part of Windows, like Paint or Windows Media Player, or with apps you get from the Windows Store.

(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.)

  2. Enter the name of the program in the search box, press and hold (or right-click) the search result, and then tap or click Open file location.

  3. Press and hold (or right-click) the program icon, tap or click Properties, and then tap or click the Compatibility tab.

Well, there's an Assault Frigate Mk I in the card art for Carlist, so that's probably a sign for the future.

That sounds like good Imperial tactics "fear will keep the systems in line. Fear of this battle station"

I always found once I had control over most of the galaxy I would build lots Imperial fleets with 3 ISD's with Defenders and 4 lancers and block as many of the planets as I can. Eventually I could hunt them down
