Trying to convince myself AoR is worth it, need some help.

Even if there is duplicated information, when I am looking at running campaigns, I need to be able to incorporate elements from the Rebels and Imperials. Just because you don't have any characters running Duty instead of Obligation, doesn't mean you aren't going to have your players interacting with either Rebels or Imperials (or both and having to choose... best option). Allow them to buy some of the weapons (or in transport drop out a few), but they will have to deal with the different factions to acquire some of the weapons as I won't be making them generally available. I also like to make players choose sides sometimes, even the mercenary ones. Sure, they can try to work one side against the other, but I'm going to drop a few tests in their laps and let them deal with the dilemna.

At some point, I'm sure there will be a player that wants to play a Rebel, just like I know we're going to have some (if not all) wanting to play Force users. It might take a bit more work, but having conflicting Obligation, Duty and whatever the mechanic is for Jedi working against each other will have my players talking more and more and getting into character and working things out.

That's why I will own all of the Core Rulebooks. So I can present as much of a living galaxy for my players to interact in as possible.

I always go with the decision tree of: Do I want it, can I afford it, will I use it. If the answer to these questions are yes then I buy it. The AoR CRB is a Solid book with lots of information to help with running games in the Rebellion era, though the book is primarily based around playing Rebels you should remember that even just Smugglers will be affected by the Rebellion against the Empire. Also, the Duty mechanic can be used in other forms of games.

I would agree that having all three books is well worth it, having access to all of the weapons ships races and careers is great. I still maintain though that you can run a pretty complete Star Wars game with just EoE, especially when you have the fan made stats for the other areas. Bear in mind that to play Luke you use a Explorer Fringer with Force Sensitive Exile, Han is a Smuggler, Chewie is probably a Tech, and Leia is a Colonist Politico using Edge.

I've found that the 'duplicated" info is often less of a duplication and more of a second look from a slightly different viewpoint. Even if you don't play a Rebellion game it might give you insight to NPC motivations, and ideas to flesh out other parts of your campaign. Maybe a recurring Rebel contact who needs your player group to act as couriers who can avoid "Imperial Entanglements" and such...

If you are ever wondering "should I buy this neat thing" the answer is always "yes".

Thinking about it is communist. =)

Buy more stuff, support the economy.

I have 6 players now down from 7. I have all non beta books currently released. One of my players has the two core books too and frequently there will be 3-4 core books open at the table (for example when they are leveling up at the beginning or end of a session or are at a place like Nar Shaddaa where they can spend their credits on new gear or modding their gear)

Well I've made the decision to get it. It will be nice to have a couple CRBs around. Thanks guys!

Hahaha! You really just wanted people to tell you to buy it, didn't you? :D

"See honey? Everyone says I MUST have this! Can I please please please get it?"

I say this tongue in cheek... because I usually only do that around obvious holiday times (Christmas, Birthday)

Otherwise, my policy is it's easier to beg for forgiveness than it is to get permission...
