Independant Keyword

By player673924, in CoC Rules Discussion

Hi, I can not seem to find a definition for the keyword Independent .

What does it mean? I'm currently constructing a deck of Syndicate/Shub and the Ghoulish Thrill Seeker has this keyword. I have no idea what it is for, I have not seen it referenced by another card.

Thanks.

Andy.

it is simply another keyword.

in ccg good ol' times there was a lot of independent characters - flying polyp scout comes to mind. or hound of tindalos (reprinted? ) guardian elder thing. contract killer.

side note - ghoulish thrill seekers is total waist of a card, I would not play it....

Yeah, this ties in a bit to the source material (or at least the Call of Cthulhu RPG) where certain monsters were Servitors, some were Independent, some were Great Old Ones or Outer Gods, etc. So, it's just another keyword like Investigator or Cultist.

They're monsters that, at least flavor wise run around by themselves in their own societies, unfettered by demanding Great Old One's or enslaved by just plain Old Ones

It's not a keyword at all. It's a Subtype . A Subtype is a word with no rules attached to them (although the subtype 'attachment' does, ironically) that cards can use to refer to, so they can refer to a subset of cards.

For instance, a card can read:

"All Deep One characters gain +5 skill."

It means that all cards with the subtype 'Deep One' will get the boost. You don't have to look at the art and discuss how much that guy looks like a fish to warrant the bonus - the subtype will define if it gets a boost or not.

Ok, That clears that up then :D

Thanks.
