A-scelation

By TyrantLord73, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey guys I'm heading to an escalation tournament tomorrow and I pretty settled on an all A-Wing list for 150 points

PS 1 - Prototype Pilot (15pts) [Chardaan Refit]

PS 1 - Prototype Pilot (15pts) [Chardaan Refit]

PS 3 - Green Squadron Pilot (25pts) [A-Wing Test Pilot, Autothrusters (2pts), Chardaan Refit, Outmaneuver (3pts), Push the Limit (3pts)]

PS 3 - Green Squadron Pilot (25pts) [A-Wing Test Pilot, Autothrusters (2pts), Chardaan Refit, Outmaneuver (3pts), Push the Limit (3pts)]

PS 7 - •Jake Farrell (33pts) [A-Wing Test Pilot, Autothrusters (2pts), Proton Rockets (3pts), Push the Limit (3pts), Veteran Instincts (1pts)]

PS 8 - •Tycho Celchu (37pts) [A-Wing Test Pilot, Experimental Interface (3pts), Proton Rockets (3pts), Push the Limit (3pts), Expert Handling (2pts)]

It's 60-90-120-150 and all cards used in the previous round have to stay. I was mostly wondering what people thought the best way to split the ships up between rounds or any changes/improvements. I'm not expecting a win with this list but I'd like it to at least be competitive :)

rd 1 - 2 greens 10 point bid

rd 2 - add tyco , 3 point bid

rd 4 - add Jake

rd 5 - add protos?

Maybe change outmanuver to Predator?

I haven't played escalation yet, so I'm curious why it seems most people play round 1 to lose, doesn't every win count equally? I wouldn't spend a lot of points bidding in round one, unless I really needed them for my round 2 addition.

I would play it like this:

Round 1 - 1 Green + Jake - 2 point bid*

Round 2 - Add Tycho without EI and EH - 90 even

Round 3 - Add EI and EH and the other Green - 120 even

Round 4 - 2 Prototypes - 150 even

*Here's my theory here, at lower point values, each point is worth MORE than normal, since you and your opponent have less to spend. At 100 points, a 10 point bid is almost unheard of, and that's only 10% of the list, at 60 points it's closer to 17%! The rockets on Jake will also help, especially against a large ship, if the opponent decides to squeeze one in early.

Also, I have't done the math, but Piznit may be right on predator. Unless you are target locking, I think predator is better than outmaneuver, mostly because it works in arc.

Last escalation I did was with an A-swarm all with Chardaan Refits. The first round was Tycho and Jake with the usual load out, (minus Prockets) for 59 points. The second round I added Arvin for about 86 or 88 if I recall. The third round I added two naked green squadron pilots. The last round I added expert handling, PTL, and I think autothrusters on those and added a 6th A wing.

The first round came down to time against Kath and two M3's. I had Jake left versus Kath, each with one hull left. I found out in the next round that I was playing Autothrusters incorrectly which probably would have had me win the first round, but i also made some tactical errors. Oh well... 2nd round bye. Third round against a bunch of Ties; one of each type. I made a critical error out of the gate by not recognizing Major Rhymer and his ability to adjust secondary weapon ranges that resulted in Jake and a Green Squad pilot getting vaporized very quickly. The bomber, Whisper, and Dark Curse went as my squad slowly decintagrated, ultimately getting offed by Soonter.

The last round was against Scum Kath, two M3's and 2 or 3 Y wings. I separated and trapped Kath with all six Y-wings, blocking her movement for three rounds and unloading all but one into her. She even dropped a bomb on herself. She did not last long, and the Auto blaster Y wings showed up at then end, but too late. At the end, all of my A wings were left, with one hull each.

Hey guys thanks for the replies. Managed 4th out of 16 so not too bad :)

I would play it like this:

Round 1 - 1 Green + Jake - 2 point bid*

Round 2 - Add Tycho without EI and EH - 90 even

Round 3 - Add EI and EH and the other Green - 120 even

Round 4 - 2 Prototypes - 150 even

First round was against Xixor with predator and Autothrusters and 2 binarye pirates. Managed to take out both Headhunters and then Jake took Xizor down to one hull with a well placed PRocket. After that it was just a matter of hunting him down for a 60-0 win

Second round was ten numb with mangler and lando, goodie with ion and Gemma with outmaneuver, refit and autothrusters. I wasn't subtle about this one and went right for ten. Managed to take ten out and he only got one shot off. Struggled with the last two but managed to take out the gold and then Gemma at the cost of my Greenie for a 90-22 win

Third round was vs SuperDash with HLC, 3 bandits and cracken with swarm tactics. I thought my best shot here was to go for dash first but ended up regretting it as it cost me jake for about 2 shields on dash. So I switched targets and went for the Z's. One z went down to a single shot hit, hit, double damage! Cracken went down next and then I took out another bandit on the last turn for a close fought 45-33 win

My final round was against a doom shuttle with Intel agent, Whisper with Intel, VI, ACD, FCS, Soontir with autothrusters, push, stealth, Carnor with the same and a black squadron with intimidation. Went straight for the shuttle and reduced it to 3 hull in the first round of shooting but lost a prototype. Next round the other proto blocked the shuttle and Jake moved in for a shot got three hits and the shuttled rolled an evade and survived! Everything else shot Carnor and killed him but not before he caused Tycho to die due to not being able to use focus/evade. The shuttle that I wish I'd protoned shot Jake, knocked off 2 shields and then vader-ed to do an injured pilot crit and then killed itself. Jake died the next turn leaving 2 greens and a proto vs Whisper, Soontir, and the black squadron, not good! Managed to take out the black squadron but lost one green leaving the final score at 75-110 loss. My last opponent ended up winning the whole thing so I can't complain

Really enjoyed flying my a-wings again and I'm pretty happy with 4th!
