Only one large ship?!?!

By DerErlkoenig, in Star Wars: Armada

I find find this kind of speculation useless

we have no CLUE what the final point total is, or even if we could get one or two in the game.

And if one thing we have learned, I would gladly put 9 corvettes, against 1 ISD. Because the ISD could only take out at most 2 a turn

The last guy I played did have a mighty impressive list. 3 Nebs, each title, and one of each unnamed squadron (2 X). He just had two VSD IIs with Gunnery Team shoved into his face, so basically 4 VSDs as far as dice were concerned. That and my GSD swung in heroically from the side, and that didn't do him any favors.

Hey! If you're talking about the tournament at FFG a couple weeks ago, that was me! Again, great game!

As for the original topic, I can't think of any reason they'd be limited to one of, especially since with fleet sizes going up. Maneuvering multiple large ships without colliding or obstructing your own attacks will take some work though.

As much as some people are belittling the OP, I think he's actually done the right thing here. He's been given bad sounding information from several different sources (enough to start questioning himself), and rather than freak out and claim the sky is falling, he's calmly asked on here if he's missing something.

That said, I do think it's unlikely that FFG will place a cap on large ships. It's probably just several people having the same freak out of "OMG! Large ships! Much power! Needs such cap!" ;)

I'm looking forward to seeing if Riekan works the way some of us are thinking with a couple mc80s. It will be interesting for the rebels to have a couple or more big ships hanging about even if destroyed until the end of the round. Not only if due to not having activated but also due to obstruction.

Nah, Rieekan with 4 MC30's a Redemption and engineering tokens.

Just wait for the Executor Super Star Destroyer to show up.

It will likely be the equivalent of the Tantive IV in X-Wing. Yes the size is subjective but it makes the most sense.

Like Corellian Corvette said, why would FFG choose to limit their sales by only allowing one ISD per fleet? Besides, if the game is well-balanced, point limits should be all that matters (with the exception of the 1/3 fighter rule, but I think that's mainly because activating multiple hundred points worth of fighters each turn could make the game last hours longer than it should and invite other shenanigans I haven't even thought about). Still, I don't think running multiple ISDs will be a great idea, but people should be free to do so if they want. I plan on buying two just to see them on the table for casual games.

Well the 1/3rd fighter rule is obviously to keep the game about Capital Ships and not Squadrons. If they wanted a squadron combat game they could make it.

fighter limit's in place because it'd take ages to roll through and keep track of 37 tie fighters; 50 at 400

40 Y-wings would arguably be worse

Well thankfully you can't have that many even if there was not a limit. You would auto lose every game.

You didn't hear anything from any sources, you heard two people speculating wildly. Why that would that have any credibility in your view? It certainly seems to have wound you up.

For comparison if I came on the forums saying FFG is going to change the Tournament Rules so that you have to run 1/3rd of your list in fighters, would that one other person agrees with my out of left field decree make it anymore then me just making things up? It certainly wouldn't warrent losing sleep over or sensationalizing.

When you get better at reading come on back and we might be able to have a conversation like two adults.

Yes, it was! I knew you were on the forums because I've seen other posts of yours, but didn't keep track of your name. It sure was a nail biter.

And that's exactly what I've been thinking. Also, if they planned on limiting it, you'd think that they would announce that, a great way to lose player confidence would be to let people buy 2-3 of a ship they can only field one of, lol.

Thanks. I'm not sure how people are thinking that I am making this claim, or that I believe it or something. I thought I was being pretty clear. I'm just wondering why people would even think this in the first place. I get fear of the unknown - I'm scared of the Akbar, Enhanced Armaments MC80 - but I don't want it limited, I want it powerful, but balanced.

He seems like an exceptionally powerful commander. He should really help alleviate the "cost" of activating 2nd so that you can more fully enjoy the other advantages.

He would actually be a GREAT going second Commander which means I would do far better with the rebels going second. . . I usually lose badly when I am second player. . . With either faction. . .

Depending on the cost Akbar Space Whales with EA would be deadly. Then again so would Akbar with MC30's with Rapid Reload

Akbar is pretty great to make anything deadly, no question.

Vader better be great, lol. Have we heard anything about who the commander will be for the Raider?

I don't know if the Raider is getting a Commander. . .

Not that I know of. The preview only shows 3 cards and that is rapid reload and a title. The last card is reversed

Huh, well with Rebs getting two, I'd like to see the imps get two as well... But whatever. I have faith that FFG will keep the game state healthy.

Two MC80's. Initiate dream sequence :)

WR2 Lyraeus on page 1:

"Banthas on Ice" - I'd watch that!

Work up a pitch for the BBC - actually, Sky would be better, the former Top Gear team could then present it!

Star Gear what?

let the speculation begin!

Hard to pin down who, though. I mean, we got that general whatshisface from Empire Strikes Back (hoth base) in the shrimp frigate and the Raider is a complete FFG original, so all bets are off.

We are still missing quite a few of the small name OT commanders though, like Admiral "you have failed me for the last time" and Captain-Admiral Piett

But at least we all know Piett would be the same as Akbar but only out of the front arc (and not against squadrons :P)

Admiral "you have failed me for the last time"

Needa, I think that was. Or may be the other way around. I havn't actually read an actual Star-Wars Book in a long time.

Admiral Ozzle, if memory serves was the 'You have failed me for the last time' guy.

Captain Needa was one or two Imperial officers I genuinely liked. Famous for the, “No ship that small has a cloaking device.” and Vader's whole 'Apology accepted' scene. I liked him and Piett; reaaaally hoping to see both of them eventually.
