COMIC CON Star Wars Video
Rebels is pretty good IMO.
Other than the cliche characters, predictable plot, terrible animation, terrible character designs, illogical ret-cons, spinny lightsabers, laser slingshots, gun-saber thing, and random pink mandalorian armor, its a pretty good show IMO.
Yea you're right. Those sorts of cliches aren't normal in Star Wars stuff. Luke and Walter White both have similar character depth.
It has Vader being a total badass. That's enough for me.

Its no secret Luke was following the "Hero" archetype, but in Ep 5-6, his character got a lot more depth as he struggled with Dark Side temptation. Lest we forget he force-chocked a Gamorrean and ****-near fell to the dark side against his own Father(in one version of the script, he actually did). Given the ~36 years since Ep4, I'd expect the writers to come up with something more original than "Alladin on the Firefly".
So if Ezra had similar struggles about slipping to the dark side you'd like it better?

Have you read Lords of the Sith? Class 10 badass Vader in that book.
"Hey guys I bet you've never heard this circlejerk about the prequels haha whoo greenscreens no minis no sets haha"
The thing you will never understand is that kids like you love it because it is what you grew up with. For your older big brothers who grew up with the original trilogy we saw all of the shortcomings in the new films. It is what it is.
Even in ROTJ ole ******* georgie started to screw things up.
For me REAL STAR WARS is STAR WARS & THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK... with about half of ROTJ and about thirty minutes from the prequel-mess. So far everything is indicating that the new films will be like the first two masterpieces from thirty years ago.
Me likes DAT!

The original STAR WARS films are like THE LORD OF THE RINGS, and the new sneeze-quils-junk is like the crapitalistic-hobbit-mess.

Me sowwies... but it ain't my fault georgie turned greedy and evil and fat and lazzy and stupid, stupid, stupid.

The good news is that the old monster is out of it now... and he will not be missed, not at all.

Uh, the hero's journey was the biggest point of Star Wars, after making money and paying homage to Saturday afternoon serials and filmmaking as a whole. Cliches and tropes are cliches and tropes for a reason, especially when you are making a nostalgic work with about 100 different direct influences. Y'all are familiar with 'Star Wars' and 'George Lucas', right?
Rebels and the sequels are likewise paying homage to the OT and doing an awesome job so far.

I'd like it better if Ezra had any struggle other than being the cliche rebellious teen that doesn't want to clean his room or wash the dishes. Check out Legend of Korra if you want a kids show featuring a hero with depth and character development. If you want to relate the Air temple to Jedi, then Avatar/Korra did literally everything better than Rebels while covering a similar subject.

I suspect when rebels gets as dark as the writers are hinting at it's gonna make a lot of haters sit up and take notice. It's definately not for kids when the Imperial comic relief characters get beheaded.
That's what I thought. You haven't watched it. Do you have similar complaints about other shows you don't watch?

I barely managed to get through the first 7 episodes due to all the reasons mentioned previously. 7 episodes is certainly enough to establish all my grievances, though I'm sure that eventually the characters will improve. Unfortunately, the animation, designs, ect, will likely not. I still plan on watching the rest tonight(with alcohol in hand). Matter of fact, I'll start now.
Exactly. And it's not like it was a one-off thing. It was a major theme of the second half of the first season. If Kylo Ren was younger I'd half-suspect he was Ezra.

You mean older. Ezra is Luke's age. If Ezra is still alive, he's into his 50s by the time of TFA. Adam Driver is only 32.
Andy Serkis who's playing Supreme Leader Snoke is the right age...

I only gave it 4 episodes and I was out. Glad I reconsidered and watched the rest of the 1st season. Siege of Lothal was awesome.
Edited by Jo JoYea, but he's mo-cap. It's hard to imagine what Ezra could survive and still be portrayed as a mo-cap character instead of just being Vadered into a suit.
That guy who showed up in the first episode of Droid Tales though, he's bang-on for far Ezra.
Apologies, I was on ep6. Watching 7 now.

Still bad. The Druid powers are cool, but goddamn.

LOL. You're right yet in spite of that I'm enjoying the show. To a certain extent Star Wars is ultimately all about playing to its established tropes.
Do I wish we could have a series that didn't include Jedi, the Force, Lightsabers, and so on? You bet. I think Rebels would be better if the key characters were just otherwise normal people driven to do extraordinary things in extraordinary circumstances. I really want to see a major Star Wars story about "normal" people. It's one of the things I liked, mostly, about the X-wing novels ... fighter pilots who aren't Jedi is something I can get into (*cough**choke**CorranHorn*). But then, that's not really the Star Wars trope, is it?
The first season of Avatar had problems as well. Once you get to Empire Day, Rebels really begins to hit it's stride.
But, it is still a kid's show. Nostalgia has a tendency to make us think our kids shows were better.

What? Are you saying that Jem and the Holograms...err I mean Transformers wasn't good? ![]()

Nostalgia aside, I can still enjoy Avatar, Samurai Jack, Exo-Squad, Rocko's Modern Life, Batman Beyond, ect despite them being "kids shows". I was an adult by the time I saw Avatar Aang, and knew immediately it was a show worth watching. Rebels? Not so much.
It has Vader being a total badass. That's enough for me.
If anything that just made the other imps look more pathetic than they did in series one.

To be fair, vader makes every other other imp he's next to seem like a total ass. The only exceptions are Tarkin and General Veers. Even with the emperor I get this feeling of "And Vader takes orders from prunefaced bathrobe guy, why?"
