Comrades - Servitors

By Solar Fox, in Only War Rules Questions

So a PC in my game has switched from Operator to Enginseer. He has spent points on his comrades abilities, gunner etc. Does this still alive comrade (wasn't wearing a red shirt) or is he replaced by a servitor. Does this servitor come with programming of gunner etc?

"Switched"?

Well, if the player is simply retconning/rerolling their old character, I'd say you could just ditch the old comrade and replace it by the servitor that belongs to the new class the player has chosen.

I assume you let him spend the XP he spent on his old character invest anew into Enginseer Skills and Talents? If so, it would seem logical to apply this to the comrade as well, refunding the XP already spent and letting the player buy servitor advances.

Lynata I think he means the player Advanced Specialized into Enginseer. If I recall correctly, that isn't possible rules-wise as AS is used to either switch into another "Guardsman" role, or into an AS that is open to "Guardsman" specialties in the first place.

But, rules are more of a suggestion. I would give the player a servitor comrade and tell him that since he left to join the Machine Cult, his comrade was reassigned to a different squad. Maybe they run into him in the future or something.

If he just "switched", I imagine the AdMech somewhere sort of crapped themselves, but I'd assume that, as things happen, he would lose touch with his Comrade, who is weirded out by all the Techna-Lingua stuff, and the dirty electro-stares of the other engineseers, and drifted off to another hero, while the character would receive his customary Servitor. Since he paid for those perks, though, I'd gather that the Servitor Comrade has all of those same bonuses; either he, in making his Servitor as he would think he needs it, or his new friends, seeing from whence he came, would "pimp it up" to have those same things. Combat Servitors are things, so why not? Only my interpretation, of course, but I assume that, unless the book says you lose stuff, like non-integrated gear from your career, you keep it, sort of like how the Sergeant keeps Orders, or what have you. Here's hoping that all came out intelligent ;)

Thank you guys. For clarification. The squad separated from their own regiment are seconded into/with the Crimson Guard. Hence the change. As counts as Tech-Enginseer, so allowed the threshold switch.

Crimson Guardsmen can't go from Guardsman to Enginseer. They can go from Guardsman to Master Enginseer, weirdly, but I personally would refluff it as a Venatorii that had been trained to direct Servitors in a similar fashion to the Tau Drone Operator. I mean, theoretically, a Venatorii could technically be initiated into the Priesthood, it just seems a bit off.

On the subject, bit of a weird question but, does anyone want me to convert over some of the gear that was added in Codex: Skitarii and Codex: Cult Mechanicus for Only War?

That'd be cool.
